cost for new rear bumper fascia + paint + labor?

So I'm getting tired of staring at the eyesore that is the big dent in the rear driver corner of my bumper.

I got a quote today for a new bumper cover + paint + flex agent (dunno what that is) .. $800.

Sounds a bit high to me? What have some of you paid to get this done?

That sounds slightly high but not completely out of line. I'm going to replace mine too and have been quoted $700.

That's probably close. My front (on my '97) was $650ish (no replacement. Just repair/repaint). My wife's front on her '00 I30 was $970 (with new cover).

Way too much money, if you dont have someone you know to paint or install yourself.

I bought my rear bumper for 150 shipped from carpartswholesale.com I believe (its in the venders section on this site) Anyways they run a bunch of specials and sell stuff off ebay. Think they had the bumper for 80 bucks and shipping was like 75. I called them and just quoted the item number for that auction and they gave me that price. Great quality so far and even have some pics of the install....

Install is very simple if you have a friend which I had. He also helped me with the paint for $300 and placing the bumper on and screwing in some stuff.. I spent a total of $450 to get a bumper, paint and the labor to put it on.

I actually spent an extra $100 on mudflaps, all new brackets, screws for the brackets to bumper, rear side marker lights and bulbs. So $550 total. I'm sure paying around 600-800 for someone else to do all of it sounds good for ball park but if you can have someone at least JUST paint it for you - install it yourself!

Check out carpartswholesale too in the venders section on this site. I think thats the name of the site to order the bumper for around the best price anyways. I shopped around ALOT too. Unless you can find some place local with a non painted primed bumper this is your spot to go.

Flex agent is paint additive for painting on flexible surfaces, like polyurethane bumper skins.

If you have a big dent in the corner of your bumper, it's possible the energy absorption materials behind the skin are damaged, which means the parts and labor for that repair is included in the overall cost.

If not, then yeah, $800 is too much money. To do a proper job when painting the bumper skin, they would have to remove it anyway, so it's not any extra labor installing the new one. I had a quote this summer for my front bumper skin, painting only, at $350. This was a reputable body shop, quoting me from the software.

are you going with oem cover or aftermarket?

oem has much better fit but is also about 150 more.

i say for $800 you should be getting an oem cover, R&R, paint, buff and polish.

Good luck.

Mine has a huge dent in it. Got a bumper off craigslist in perfect condition but used, gonna sand it, and have a buddy of mine professionally paint it for $70. I'd try finding someone you know. $800.00 is apparently that average price, than i'm getting a hell of a deal....

Why, did you pay $800?

Sounds OK and reasonable for an auto body shop price. I would reccomend picking up an OEM rear bumper yourself and bringing it to the shop, they might chop the price in half and you'll come out on top.

Was it from an accident? Probably some other parts replaced. This guy is only talking about the plastic cover replacement...

I paid $175 to have my rear bumper painted.. the P.O. had backed into something and left a very nice eyesore of a gash. It was a simple remove and paint.

Did they take off the bumper? Or just painted?

Finally replaced the rear bumper today. Had to do it twice and still was not perfect. I still have to re-do tomorrow.

But it should be straight forward. The issue I has was because the car had a rear end damage and the original brackets and bolts were no longer in use. Hence it was confusing.

But 3rd time is a charm.

I took pics and will post, it should help others who have to replace the facia one day.
