Speedometer Sticks Sometimes

I have a 2000 SE 5 speed that the speedometer gets stuck only when crusing at a constant speed between 70-75mph. If the speed varies then it does not stick.

If the car is turned off then the speedometer resets and works correctly.

Any ideas as to what is the problem- the speedometer or the vehicle speed sensor?

If your speed is constant then your speedometer shouldn't move. When I'm going 65 my speedo doesn't move either, until I take my foot off the gas thus varying my speed and my speedo then moves down.

Yes, and when I take my foot off the gas the car slows down and the speedometer needle stays where it was (ie, 70MPH when I'm going allot slower). If I turn the car off then the needle drops back to zero and works OK until I drive at a steady speed for several minutes and it sticks at that speed even if I slow down or speed up.

OIC sounds like a sensor. But I've never had that happen so I'm purely guessing.

do you guys have the paradox chrome gauge rings installed? sound simple, but if it just got hot the glue tends to melt a little and the whole ring falls down juuuust enough to catch your needle (where 70MPH is, the top), hard to see but its possible (happened to me) and when you turn off the car the engine shaking could vibrate it loose.
