"Trip" botton does not work after Bose to aftermarket swap

Hey guys. I have a question. I just swapped factory Bose for a aftermarket Panasonic head unit on my 02 I35. Stereo sounds amazing even without the PAC NIS2 adapter. Now, my "Trip" button doe snot work. I searched through the forum and found that someone indirectly mentioned a brown/white wire than needs to be grounded for the button to function properly. IS this correct? I just want to make sure so I would not fry anything.

Thanks.

Brown/white wire from the 3rd harness is what I was told by the Best Buy installer who got my trip computer working again after an aftermarket HU install.

You need to ground the wire, and the trip function will work again...

Ok, just grounded the brown/white wire. Trip button and headlights are now functioning, except that turn signals do not (fog light corner light does turn on though) . Do I need to do something extra for the turn signals to work?

Did you make sure to plug the hazard switch back in?

how did you manage to get your steering wheel controls to work with an aftermarket hu? Ever since I changed mine the buttons for radio control do not work. I was told I needed to purchase something but it sounds to me like you didn't? lmk

I think your volume control will not work unless you purchase and install something to get it all to work together with your aftermarket radio, but if Im not mistaken, this thread is talking specifically about the trip button because its not related to the radio but was probably disconnected when installing the aftermarket radio.

Somebody corrent me if Im wrong?

Correct...the audio controls & trip button may be in the same location but they are two different "systems". Audio controls interface with the factory radio. Trip button doesn't.

Funny thing is that my trip button does not work either after a hu swap. If i remember correctly, this button controls the display on the speed cluster?) I this something that I need to buy something for? OR can it just be fixed because it's not hooked up properly? Let me know i'm very interested in getting that fixed and if you have pics on how to fix it that would be awesome

Are you talking about the circular button on the display itself (that resets the trip counter), or the button labeled "trip" on the steering wheel? If it's the button on the steering wheel you just need to ground the brown wire with white stripe, just look at the first posts on this thread.

Yep the button on the steering wheel. I'd have to take my car apart to know what you're talking about even then, some pictures would def be helpful. So what you're saying is take the brown wire with white stripe and screw it to a metal part in my car and that will make it work? Does this apply to ONLY bose? I have the gxe so maybe it's different? lmk

For the trip controls you will need to tap the brown/whitestriped wire and ground it to the frame.

As far as the audio controls. You need to get an adapter which will cost you like fifty bucks(got mine on sonicelectonix.com). The company that I have is PAC. Make sure to get one that is specific to your radio (i.e. infinity->infinity adapter, alpine->alpine adapter)

"Funny" cause that question was already answered about 5 times in the beginning of this 15 reply thread....my suggestion is to read the whole thread before you post in it to make sure your question wasnt answered already.

Hey thanks man, but would the install of this also return the controls for the temp,mpg...ect? or just the volume control? Yeah in a sense I was jacking the thread to get this answer mainly cause the OP's question was answered.
