HID kit messes up radio..

So when I have my Hids on and my radio on at the same time I get a lot of static from the radio, but when I turn off the Hids the radio sounds good again..

I have a Pioneer bt-6100 i believe.. what could cause this?

Thanks!

Check and see. If the power wire is close to the HiD wiring that might cause some distortion...

Come to think of it you probably have a bad ground somewhere as well, that can cause distortion. More info would help though...

I would also suggest a noise reducer installed to the positive and negative of your head unit. while your at it go to walmart to their auto section and buy some battery grounding cables. instead of paying big bucks for a colored one you can make your own grounding kit cheap. this gets rid of some unwanted wine and noise in your stereo as well as a few other perks. all for under $25 buy a 4 gauge and some 8 gauge you can go to this site to get ideas of where you want to mount it. they don't have a 5th gen but its very similar you really cant mess anything up unless you try and ground your positive lead on your battery. http://www.activetuning.com/products...stallation.php

If you really want to do a grounding kit, I'd recommend going to a welding shop and buying the wire there. It's much cheaper and in most cases higher quality than the walmart stuff.

hid radio..

i work at a car audio shop and just got a phone call about the same thing this morning... ironicly in ny though.. u should look into the frequency of your hid ballast and amplifer as well . also check ur grounds on the hid's if u have the optional batter relay harness installed with the hid kit..

You could try adding a small capacitor to the power lines for the headunit. May help to filter out some of the high frequency ripple in the power system of the car.

Seems as if the HID ballast has no form of power factor correction, so it is introducing noise to the electrical system of the car.

Since you mention it, when I used to be involved with car audio, I acquired my wire from weldingsupply.com....they have 4ga up to 3/0 made of 30ga strands so it's really flexible. Red 4ga: $0.88/ft
