I must say, i shudn't have bought the 6th gen at all. When i bought the 6th gen and used to visit these forums, i used to read the comments how bad 6th gen. I used to kinda disagree and kept telling myself "huh 6th gen is not bad at all", that is until i got the 5.5th Gen, and i just love this car, from interior to engine, this car is under estimated by many people.

Oh and my 6th gen sl was a 4 speed auto whereas my 2003 SE is a 6 speed, i love it.

The only mod i have is the apexi intake, but i am looking forward to change out the headers and exhaust system.

The 6th Gen has it's bragging rights, too. An independent rear suspension, an improved 6MT (while it lasted), and that funky sideways sunroof.

But at the end of the day, the 5.5 Gen was simply the better car, inside and out.

yea, i think the rear suspension was a definate plus for the 6th gen, from what i understand they have better valve covers also, along with the 10hp and better trans so ill give the edge to them there, now at the end of the day which is better to me??? most definately a 5.5 with the way it responds to mods and its overall look... keep us posted...

I completely forgot that the 6th gen weighed more. That extra 10 HP was kind of edging me toward finding a newer Max.

I've always been a much bigger fan of the 5/5.5-gens. Not saying I wouldn't mind a 6th gen for more comfort/luxury purposes. I'd probably never mod one, though. Just keep my 5.5 around for that.

If you do the math, that's around an extra 1/2 pound per HP that the 6th gen is draggin' around.

 

Not to be rude, but last I checked 250lbs/10hp is 25 pounds per HP.

 

That and the cheaper interior plastics in the 6th gen are why I didn't even consider one. The dash and door panel plastics have a much more upscale look in the 5.5 gens. However, I would have preferred the 5AT of the 6th gens over my 4AT since I couldn't find a 6 speed car.

 

Understood... I guess what I'm saying is that it would've been great if we got that extra 10 whp also... ther is more plus with a 6th gen imo than a 5.5... however 5.5 is the most fun and looks better, which was the only factor that mattered to me

 

I think we were both in the same predicament when we were buying our 5.5... I also agree that the 5at was a MAJOR plus

Congrats, I've been wanting to get out of this car almost a yr now, nd but seeing new dyno graphs and mods available for the 3.5 motor, I kind of want to get a 5.5 6spd or a 6th gen 6spd.

3231lbs/255hp = 12.67 lb/hp

6th Gen SL (2006)
3493lbs/265hp = 13.18 lb/hp

Therefore, the 6th gen has .51 more pounds per HP.

In fact, I think the 5.5 handles worse than my old 4th gen SE did.

The best handling Maxima I've ever driven was the 7th gen. It's a great highway car.

Yes you're absolutely right, it does handle worst than the 4th gen.
Don't think I'll be getting around to the 7th gen...I cannot drive it if it's not stick and I'm too old to change.

 

I'm sympathetic to that opinion, but you have to admit there will come a day when that option is no longer available because of manufacturing limitations, the physical limitations of old men... or both.

Actual weight is a goofy thing with cars. Nav adds a little because of the trunk-mounted hardware. A powered passenger seat probably adds weight. A sunroof probably adds weight. Even HLSD is likely to add weight.

Those are dry weights too, figuring one gallon=7lbs our 5.5's weight almost 200 lbs more with a full tank. So hp to weight ratios are all relative.

 

I was set on a 5.5 or 6th gen. when I was going to get one...the first one I went to test drive was a new 6spd. 6th gen just to see how I liked it and I didn't like the feel of it at all. Just felt too much like a boat or something can't really explain it didn't like the feel of it. So that steered me right to a 5.5 gen.

i got the max after having a ls1 trans am and i am very impressed with the power , great car and very roomy.

 

welcome! I had 4th gen and loved it and never wanted another car. got myself into a 5.5gen as well and i could sleep in this car.

Hotshot u know better, why are you questioning the weight that dude specified??? All three maxima's had different weight and the one he listed was probebly nost reasonable.... mines weighed 3370
