Yep... that's normal. Flattened so they could weld on it easier.

Well considering we gain power from going from an unrestricted 2.5" to a 3" cat-back, that OEM B-pipe is certainly a restriction not even counting the dent.

Wow, how could that be normal? It is a sorry *** way of welding it. Somebody fell asleep when designing this connection!

I share your discontent. But from a marketing perspective, how do you profit from a marginally better exhaust design? It's not like showrooms turn their cars upside-down.

It's not for easier welding, but instead, it's to provide more clearance for the metal support that attaches to the car at that exact spot. That is 95% of the reason people have these new "rattles" when they put aftermarket 2.5" exhaust pipes; needs minor alignment at all flanges especially at this particular location.

The weld in the picture isn't stock. That part of the stock exhaust is all one pipe with no welds.
The dent is stock. It's restrictive too. A 2.5 inch B-pipe alone is good for a few HP because it doesn't have the crimp there.

Naw, I bet its a dish hook up. My Jeep had a similar 'crushed' B pipe. I thought I had bottomed out or something.

mine looked worse! when they removed the old to put in the new they moved the crossmember to make room. Nissan did a number on our OEM exhausts. that restriction cannot be a good thing at all
