question about repair

Not in this thread often, but I have a friend with a question;
He wants to buy a 2000 maxima the problem is it gets stuck in gear sometimes(What could this be?) the selling price is $1700. now if he buys it, he wants a estimation of how much it would cost to repair after spending $1700.

auto/manual?

if it is a manual i would think the shift linkages need adjusting/replacing or the clutch isn't disengaging completely. It could also be the tranny dying, doubt this one though

Its a manual. It has 165,xxx miles. Is shift linkage a problem with the 5th gens?
So would that mean its a bad clutch?? Or...

i seem to remember something about the shifting being "cleaner" after replacing the shift linkage bushings. not 100% sure on that though, mine shifts fine. I wouldnt think it is the clutch it think it would be the adjustment on the pedal. causing the clutch not to disengage completely thus making it hard to get out of gear

Well. The most he'd be looking at may be around 2-3K. That is if he needs a tranny and/or clutch and linkage. Could be way cheaper if he doesn't have a shop do the work.

O ok so he basically can get the whole car for under 3K, bcuz from what your thinking no way will he need a tranny replacement
