A couple of months ago I took my wife to a nice restaurant for her birthday and when we came out the Maxima had a nice new scratch on it's rear bumper.



Anyway I don't want to live with the way this looks but I'm wondering what is the best way to get rid of this scratch? I know painting the whole bumper is probably the best way but I'd rather not drop a lot of money on this. I've been told by a friend that air brushing is a good option. I've never had that done before though. Oh, and touch up paint is out of the question. The Nissan touch up paint for Sterling Mist is WAY off.

Bring it to a good body shop, see if they can buff it out, and to a touch up on the black parts (where the paint is missing.)

A little bit of rubbing compound and 90% of that scratch is gone.
Touch up the rest and your good to go.

60% of that will polish off. The black you see is the raw bumper cover plastic. This will require re-painting. A decent shop will charge $350-$450 to do this. Have them polish it.. then do a brush-touch on the black area. It might be okay.

$500 will make it go away! Have it done!

Well I used the Cyclo with some heavy duty polishing compound I got from Top Of the Line and it took about 60% of it away I'd say. The scratch is deep and is still there but is not noticeable unless the right light hits it.

$500 is way more than I'm willing to pay for this, at least at this time. I'm going to look into having it airbrushed.

I feel your pain. Hit and run in parking lot. Wife came home this evening from shopping and showed me the damage. Mine is 10 times worse. Scratch runs from corner of bumper to wheel well and 4 to 6 inches wide.

Would like to see how it turned out after the rubbing compound or whatever it was that you did to it. Would like to touch up the bumper as much as possible. The few dark lines are okay, but would like to have as much taken away. (Dad hit the trunk with the garage a few years back.)

Sorry, I was too tired after messing with the clutch that night and forgot to take the after picture of the bumper. Tomorrow it's actually going to be warm out (52F...heat wave) so I'll get a decent picture then.

Looks good dude. Just hit those black spots with some touch-up paint, and you will be good to go.

Airbrushing might look good in the short term, but it will fail. The problem is there's no way to burn the clearcoat in, without applying clearcoat to the entire cover.

Touchup paint, and let er go. Unless you want to spend the $$ to make it right.
