What to do???

O.k so yesterday 1.6.10 my transmission officially started slipping, it shifts really hard going into 2nd and wont go to 4th unless i floor it and manually shift... I wanna start on a 6spd swap but is wondering is it really worth it??? not necessarily doing it for the speed but for the fact that im tired of the auto and manual is more fun and the trans is probebly more duarble... anyways ive only seen one guy to actually do the 6spd swap in a 5.5... if i do go the route of a 6spd swap im planning on still using my auto ECU... should i do it or just put an auto back in there and bish until i can buy a manual car???... oh and if you guys can find the link for the parts list link it would be helpful, im too disappointed and frustrated to look

I drove a auto 03 last week, has nothing on my 6mt. It's just alot more fun and you feel alot more "connected" to the car. Since your trannys going take that as a sign, and ditch the auto. Once you're done you will definitely not regret it.

I guess the autos are more reliable on the lighter cars. That husky 5th gen needs a 6-speed, haha.

For sure if you're N/A, the 6-speed will be faster. You need power and apparently mods done to the auto to be fast and reliable

Someone is selling a 6MT HLSD for $5K in the FS section. It might be easier to buy what you want, swap over some of your bolt-ons, and sell your current ride. (might be)

g'luck, Hustler.

sucks about your tranny slipping.. i would say fix the auto, find a 6spd and sell the auto.. a lot less work IMO.. but it'd be a good project to go from auto to 6spd

keep us updated!

I wish I had the $$$ to go get a 6spd... id sell my auto right this second for a stock 6spd, but seeing as though it will take time to get rid of the auto... modded then my best bet is to switch over.... I'm just not into the auto ever since purchase... as for parts
Tranny (of coarse)
Master cyl
Slave cyl
Driver axle
Shifter cables, and the misc BS

You would also need to mount a clutch pedal and align it perfectly and dash parts to fit the 6-speed shifter. Also get ES shifter bushings right away.

Replace the automagic tranny and save the money and heartache for a faster/better/sexier car (blashpemy, omgwtfbbq!?!).

Plus while you're messing with the dash and pedals, you can easily install a sprint booster.

You're on a roll. Are you getting a commission on all these sprint booster sales? Or do you get paid per mention? You must now have an in with the sprint booster mafia.

Replace the Auto.

Unless you have another daily driver so you can spend the time to do teh sap right you are just asking for headaches.

If you have another car and can take your time to properly prepare including all the time it will take to find all the little pieces then it's a great learning experience. And you either need a nice big garage or it better be spring.

It's all about what time you have. And if your existing tranny will last until you are ready.

Just my 2 cents.

Here's the FS thread.

I think this guy's been trying to sell it for like a year now, and this is a new FS thread, with a new price and a new location. (Syracuse! Right down the road from me! Now that's uncommon.) I've been trolling the FS threads off and on, trying to keep tabs on the resale value for my car for when that day comes.

Anyway, seems like a fair price for a decent ride.

You can't use the auto ecu if you swap to a 6spd. You will also need a lot of random parts that you probably will not think of until the swap is happening. There are some threads on here that will be extremely useful in your choice, including one where someone lists all the parts you will need, minus maybe a few randoms. You need to find a donor car or it could get costly

well i didnt view the brakes as an actual problem, seeing as though we all gotta eventually change or brakes at some point in time... but hopefully i find the right person but i might just go back to auto and keep the car

I don't think the tranny swap will be too hard, however The linkin of the clutch cable and the randoms Prob will be. sell ur car and get a 6mt. Just make sure to get a 6mt. For the annoyance the swaps gonna be just sell the car.

Yea.. I was myself on the conquest of doing the conversion for my 01 gle auto. Then realized I can boost my Auto for the same price of all the parts to go manual lol. I'm saving up for my 02-03 6 spd.. Thats going to be a helluva day.

I have a manual in my Max and an auto in my HB (w/V6 4WD). Although I do enjoy shifting the Max, I like the convenience of the auto. The auto was rebuilt and I had a shift kit from Trans-Go installed, the shifts are quick and precise, no soft shifting or lag time. I can power brake 33's without a problem. So a rebuild with shift kit would be my 2 cents worth.

If the day ever comes when you want to sell the Max, you'll have an easier time selling an auto vs. a manual. Just a fact of life, most people anymore don't know how, don't want to learn or don't like a manual tranny.
