HID Installations
HID Installations
Does anyone know where in Houston area can I find people or shop willing to help me install the 2k2 headlights in my 2k1 maxima? After reading the writeup on installation, Somehow, I realized why I am not in engineering school....
it may be bit intimidating to just look at em. but if you try it out, it's not really that bad. if you realize it's just not for you, you can always splice everything back together the way it was stock no harm done. the original wires are all color coded so it's pretty fool proof.
hell, for what a dealer would charge you, i don't think you want him to try figuring it out anyhow.
if you're so inclined maybe you can try daveb at town north nissan. i know texas is huge, but i'm in california and have no idea how close that is to houston. but it's an option.

stick to the original writeups from either bigdog or ice. then go to pep boys to buy everything. there's a parts list with both writeups. instead of butt connectors, i use quik-connects which are hard threaded plastic things that go inline with the wires you're connecting. makes life pretty easy, especially if you have to redo something. also, just make sure you get a good quality wire stripper.
for the relays, radio shack has what you need. but i didn't use any in my setup.
i'm a guy btw

BTW whats splicing tool, and whats the diff between butt and quik connectors? are they of the same shape.... So Am I right to assume that the connectors will fit into the light units or Do I have to cut the wires on both side and connect them with connectors? BigDog's write is clear except for some minor details.... also, does your HID units comes with the 2k2 clip? I am getting mine soon

1) Soldering iron
2) Solder
3) Shrink tubing....get two packs.
You just put a piece of tube over one side of the wires, away from the heat, wrap the two wires together so the look like the first part of tying a shoe before creating the loops, solder up (heat the wire, not the solder) then when the joint is COOL, move the tube over it and hair dry the tube till it is tight! It is way easy....trust me and yourself and will make for a much better connection. Plus a degree of water resistance....
When following the instructions, take your time...go slow...not a race who cares how fast and it will make perfect sense!
Good luck

Soldering is not tough though and only takes a moment longer and a MUCH better connection. Plus the shrink tubing offers more protection (I also smeared silicon on each edge to seal it in). But hey....to each their own...I am **** retentive about everything!
