It would probably be easier to use a cam from a reputable manufacturer, rather to try and design your own.

You seem concerned with maximum lift, what class are you running in, what power band are you searching for, since obviously it's not a DD anymore?

I do want it to be drivable everyday, i was concerned about clearance because i will be using aftermarket cams for a VQ35 and i was concerned with them not fitting correctly...im a noob tuner and an engineer so maybe i got to carried away? haha

so i guess what your saying is that any aftermarket cams for a vq35 will have no clearance issues in my vq30? Maybe thats the question i should have been asking.

as far as class is concerned i dont know the tier of tuning for i wouldnt where i fall.

Edit: I just want a quicker car. not gonna be tracking it or anything. just wanna learn...so i can play with the "big kids" so to speak, lol.

As for cams, check the G35/350Z forums for some JWT, Brian Crower, Tomei, etc. You'll have to do some research with this since picking too aggressive cams will push your powerband way too far up and ones that aren't aggressive enough won't give you the kind of power you're looking for.
hey moncef, i ordered only 24 shims and i remember you saying to double shim the springs, why is that?

also, i don't want to lose too much low end power. what kinda of cam would you recommend so that i get noticeable power but minimal low end losses?
Picking cams has proven to be a lot more difficult than i expected.

Mainly an insurance thing. If you're running super aggressive cams, its recommended but if you're not running too aggressive of cams you'll be fine with HR springs.

Probably go with either RevUp VQ35 cams, the JWT S1 (VQ35 version) or the JWT S1 knockoffs. Get cam adapters from Stephen Max to run the VQ35 cams in your 3.0L.

what up every one. I Recieved my cams today =). i ended up getting NISMO R cams from Andyman

Used Nismo R cams-$600

now i just need adapters and i can take the heads/cams springs...etcs to the head place. they quoted me $350 for both heads: to resurface, do the valve job. does this seem reasonable?

Jsouza-as far as the bearings on crank shaft, you got me thinking, is there a way to know for sure if i need to change them?

also, another thing the i have noticed is that my cranck shaft and pistons wont rotate. this the what it looks like now

soo, Today i Found out The Machine shop snapped one of the cams -__-

the guy told me that they were making the final adjustments and when they tightened it down it just snapped.

Now they are making some with the same grind.

Has this happened to anyone before?

Hey YAlll! it has deff been a while. Im very close to finish up my build but I'm not sure if im putting my Stephen Max Cam adapters in right, it just feels wrong, I was hoping someone who has used them before would chime in. her is a pic of how i have the in now.
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...a&id=502776547

reason why it feel wrong is because the pin is on the intake side is now 180 degrees from were it originally would go. Input please, i wanna finish it up this week.
sorry i haven't been updating but not much was going on while i looked for replacement intake cams. I ended buying them from Brian Crower (stage 2), almost the same as the Nismo's. I need to update my parts list too but ill get to that a lil later, i wanna feel certain about these adapters, last thing i need is to put everything together and the engine not running.

thanks in advanced!!

Updates!

Finally added up how much i spent total just on part from Dave B and it came out to $1,691.20 Plus an extra 450 for new intake cams from Crower. i must say though it was very well worth it.

Hadn't updated because i was busy trying to get everything in and working

Everything is running great now, Just passed smog today with no issues, well except that i had to drive alot of miles before all my Status Monitor were all complete.

I was planning on driving it for a while without tunning it. Does anyone see any issues with that? Moncef, if you could chime in on that.

Im trying to find a Dyno near by so i can see what just the cams, springs...etc did, i def lost some low-end torque and HP but i'm hoping i can fix some of that with the tuning, on the top end i can really feel the power increase. Also, it stalls at idle sometime usually when its warm...oh and my mileage kinda blows now, ahaha.

as far a vids, I'm a noob, but ill try to figure it out.

I'm impressed with the work that you did. Did you do anything at all to the crank, or just mess with the top end?

It would be fun to have a "spare" 3.5 engine and be able to do all that stuff to it then just swap them out when it was finished.

@ stalling at idle.

I'm glad you got everything running properly man. Hopefully my build can match yours, I have the software so now I just need the hardware

It's hard to predict how the car runs now in terms of AFR, but I strongly recommend getting a wideband to see where the car is at. If your AFR is lean (13.6+) it will be a little unsafe to run it too hard, whereas if your AFR is rich (12.5 or lower) it will be safe to beat the car. Either way, you will need to tune it to get the most power out of the cams.

I have an e-Manage Blue and SAFC2 for sale so let me know if you're interested in either. I'd recommend at least going with the Blue since it can datalog, control the AFR via injector signal rather than airflow signal (sometimes manipulating airflow signal also screws up your timing), and it can raise the rev limit which will highly benefit your effective powerband.

Get those videos up! Just start a YouTube account and upload them.

Video!!!

Haha, So i popped my Video Cherry!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lBBMYPhR5g

so i guess my priority list is now:
Wash Car, you can all prob agree with that after you see the video
Wide Band AFR guage- i was leaning towards the AEM UEGO
Tuner
New Exhaust Syst, I really hate the way the oval one looks.

Moncef, Thanks for the offer, I was planning on getting an EMU but i guess if the price is right for that e-manage blue i wouldn't mind running that for a while.

trooplewis, thanks man, i had a lot of fun and learned a ton. oh and yeah i only messed with the heads.

Definitely read first!!!! But here's a really serious question: Have you ever overhauled an engine b4? If not,...I think (personally) this is a bit much for a beginner!

I'm sure he would have done just as good with a DEK. This is more driver than motor.
