That's right since you mentioned it!!! I was just curious where it was....I love seeing the 3" on it's 5th group production run....I still think Cattman can make $$$$ off the 2.5" if he makes a few.....I'm still interested in Cattman making a generic 2.5" Cattman muffler(twin tip) with no hanger brackets nor inlet piping other than a 3-4" straight pipe....I believe he could make mucho $$$ with that alone since there's so many muffler junkies out there!!!!!!

Can't say it enough how bomb this exhaust is and the sound is so good when you are outside of the car and somebody drives it by you like DAMN THAT'S NICE. And it only sounds like I got the axle back and not the whole exhaust. BRIAN THIS TRUELY IS A WORK OF ART...

Is it my imagination or does it sound quieter outside the car when you witness someone else driving your ride? I often follow my wife here and there when we gotta be elsewhere and in two different locations later on! I love watching that beast roll when my honey's behind the wheel....that woman has gotten 2 or 3 tickets in Our Maxima with that heavy foot.... But yes IMO it's $1 million ART SCULPTURE Starting with the HEADERS ON BACK....

It is quieter outside the car a little louder inside, my girl got a speeding ticket just recently and I can't wait to get the headers so I can have the whole package, trying to go dyno my car this week but think my front cat is clogged but still might do it..

Just got news from our exhaust partner that the current batch of Cattman 3" catbacks for the 5th gen Maxima (00-03) will be complete by the end of this week.

Most of the catbacks in this batch are pre-sold but there will be several units going into inventory and available on a first-come-first-served basis. Give us a call at 800.759.9920 (open 9-5 MST, M-F) to order.

Well the exhaust is nice looking, that's for sure ... too bad it's under my car where no one can see it. The exhaust shop manager that welded in my WB bung (and incidentally, charged me a ridiculous Canadian amount for it ($60!)) thought it was a quality setup. He told me he sees a lot of crap go through the shop and that it's nice to see a quality aftermarket setup.

That's weird I heard the same thing when I took my headers/ypipe over to the welding shop to have my WB bung TIG welded on : Ober & Son's (dam good welders)! They were like WTH is this going on? Wow this looks really expensive and it's really well done! Bring it by when you're through with it, so we can hear that damn thing! I eventually ceramic coated the entire Header/ypipe assembly just to keep the temps down under the hood, and to get a little more velocity in my exhaust stream!!!

Someone please tell me how the math is correct in the receipt email I received today haha.

The balance is supposed to be $587, but it says $687. 809-222=587.

Or not haha. $687 was deducted from my account.

Seems like that's something you'd want to contact us about. If you check your email, that mistake was fixed by crediting back $100 less than 10 minutes after it occurred.

Not that I know of - I'm sure there's a method for doing that to stainless steel, but the "bluing when heated" effect is particular to titanium. The tip may be the only part of the system that is Ti, but you get that nice bluing effect.

Well, its always rewarding, but we hear that comment pretty frequently. Put yourself in the garage owner, or mechanic's shoes. Most of those guys are filled with dread when they see a customer carry in their own exhaust system. When it doesn't fit - and they often don't - guess who typically gets blamed? Righto, the garage. That's why many garages won't let customers supply their own parts.

So, going into it like that, they can be pretty pleased when they see our exhaust system go on trouble free.

I've always gotten a kick out of it when I took my car to an exhaust shop to have something welded in or changed and they called others over to look at it, commenting on how pretty the headers/Y-pipe and exhaust are. One shop owner refused to cut into the Y-pipe saying he wasn't going to deface a "work of art"

I had that happen with my 2.5 Cattman rear muffler when I thought about having the tips cut with more of a slant....the machinist was like, "I really think this is beautiful as is and it looks really expensive and I really don't wanna mess with this...It's simply too beautiful!!!!"
That's a big freakin compliment: Brian!!!!! You ever thought about modding some Sonota's???? They're pretty boring and could use some spicing up! I hadn't seen any major parts for them yet!!!!
Maybe the clientel would be cheaper folks than the Maxima guys......Don't know! I'm interested in seeing a modded Sonota.......and what it looks like (Off topic Huh???)

New to the maxima family but I'm loving what I'm learning about mods and improving on a car I've fallen in love with. This exhaust system is a must for me when I get some extra cash.

Man I'm glad I saved all my Oem exhaust parts.....If I ever decide to sell the ride in about 2 years I'll set it back to stock form and sell it.....then sell most of the performance parts like for the exhaust, brakes, suspension, etc....But when I do a mod I try to keep the car as roadworthy as possible making it perform better, smoother, more responsive, slightly deeper tone but not obnoxious.....It's kinda weird how people sell all thier Oem parts then when it's time to sell them they have to scounge for parts that IMO, they never should have sold! I have a plan and it's in long term form not day to day! So I guess one day my Cattman 3" and 2.5" will be on the market....But I'm gonna enjoy these as much as possible while their in my possession and tell my grandkids (oneday!!!!) how awesome Cattman was back in the day!

For those of you that might have significant others that can't stand the Maxima having a deeper sportier sound, I found some 3" silencers that can be installed in the tips to quiet things down for those with wives who are having a hard time dealing with the ballsier Cattman 3" Catback.....They can be modified to fit far up inside the tips out of view...

Interesting. I bet you could substitute the bolt with a couple quick-release pins. Two is probably unnecessary, but redundancy is a nice way to not lose it. Easy on when going for Sunday drives with the mrs. and easy off when you want to drive the car sounding the way you intentioned.

I might spend some $$$ just to see how it sounds....Right now the car sounds awesome and that's without the cone insert installed....It just took a while for the carbon to quiet the exhaust....the 2.5" Cattman took about 500-700 miles when got quieter and the 3" seemed to take almost 1000 miles! I guess cause of the extra surface area insde theis larger unit.....?

First of all, I want to start by saying that Cattman catbacks and headers are superbly made and fittment is awesome. I have absolutely no problem with the workmanship.

I have an 03 TE, A/T, Cattman Headers, catback, exhaust.

Buuuuut. The exhaust, I think is too loud for me. The 2-2.6k drone absolutely drives me nuts. I've spoke to cattman and cmax03 about this and have some superb suggestions. I want to put them out there to see if anyone has tried them or has aby other ideas.

1. Place silencers in the tips (as suggested by Cmax earlier)

2. Try some of the dynatec Cone inserts P/N DTH772-32520

3. Try placing the Gaskets which go before and after Cat on the fittings of ca - catback and catback - muffler (they are 2.5" dia ones. Cmax apparently took these and ground them out to 3" dia) supposedly the smaller dia will reduce the sound. But as wel know, it will also cause reduction in performance

4. Try dynamat or hushmat in spare tire wheel well and over the exhaust.

5. Final option going with OEM muffler or Walker muffler (which /i think is P/N 54295) - According to Brian the fitment should not be a problem as his catback should be very close to OEM fitment/placement.

So, which options has anyone out there tried? Has it reduced the drone enough?

Option 5. seems to be most attractive to me as I know it will likely take care of the issue, however, it will reduce performance, which I am really okay with. I've got a Z4 which I can get my ya-ya's with in a pinch. Has anyone done this? Which muffler did you use?

Cmax, I see you had a 2.5 catback and used an OEM muffler, did that kill the drone?

Cost is becoming an issue as almost all of the above will be close to the same as purchasing an OEM/NAPA/Walker quietflow muffler...which I think will kill the drone. Will kill all the perfomance too..

Finally, is there anyone in the RIC area, who has the 3" catback, who wouldn't mind meeting up to compare how loud this system is...??

I had the demented idea of trying to retain the OEM muffler too, but have you ever tried that? The flange size is laughable compared to the 3", and it wont work without some work, as in either drilling the 3" flange larger, or, the inevitable idea of welding.

I also at one point thought of adding another resonator, but that would just sorta bastardize the system.

I don't mind this system, I too think it quieted down, or I got used to it, either way, it's staying as is.

In the "end", I'm leaving it as is, sounds too good.

Yes, I saw the flange size and the cattman one looked like a beast compared to the puny OEM one. But I seem to recall that Cmax03 had placed an OEM muffler on his 2.5" catback. I wonder if it would work with the 3" ?? Which, I guess the answer you stated, in not as many words, is an emphatic "NO"

I wonder if there is a Quiet flow muffler type avail that has a hookup to a 3" flange like the one we have?

Again, the drone, for me, just won't do. I do lots of driving around town, in what seems to be just that drone zone. Being in an A/T is the culprit, I know.

Again, I pose the question, and ask for anyone who has tried a solution?

I used an OEM muffler on my 2.5" Cattman forever because it bolts right up.

It can work with some minor/lite fabwork, like I said, either welding it, or doing a little cutting/grinding/drilling to make the holes line up the way they should. I made a tiny attempt at it and it wasn't as easy as the 2.5" Cattman was. (it literally bolts right on, perfect fit)

Or maybe, find a 3" flange, cut the old one off, weld the new one on .. many options.

Ok ok, your answer was NOT a "NO." But in terms of direct bolt on fitment, it likely cannot be done without modification, as you have empasized and pointed out.

So, what do you (or anyone else) think of the other aforementioned options?
