Modify Automatic Tranny Mount

I purchased this motor mount on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

but they sent me the steel transmission mount like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-96...item2c3f8428fc

I'm not fond of the steel motor mount. is it possible to press the rubber mount with steel sleeve out of the stock aluminum Tranny mount, and install the Energy suspension mount that is for the Manual tranny, eventhough i've got the automatic? or can i press the rubber sleeve out of the steel one and install it in the aluminum mount?

i'll just resell this tranny mount on ebay

I'm pretty sure ES does not make transmission mount inserts. They only make the inserts for the front and rear motor mount.

Exactly which mount are you looking for? Front, rear, passenger side or driver side mount? (the first link says "This listing has ended. The seller has relisted this item or one like this")

Yes it is possible to remove the OEM rubber but a sleeve will have to be welded on the mount in order for the ES bushing to fit in. I have just done that and it cost me 150$ CDN, I have just done that. I didn't do the one you are showing but they basically have the same size as the engine mount. Check in the all motor I have a thread with pics check for My N/A...

Is there something wrong with the steel mount?

I'm sure there is but I'd just like to know.

Not that I am aware of.

Maybe he has insite on this, but the steel mount is made with same quality as the steal mounts used for the front and rear. Can't see an issue...

...my '02 Max 6MT has a steel tranny mount and it's the orig. OEM.

I don't see anything wrong with the steel mounts either. That's what Courtesyparts.com sells too. I wonder if 00Lightsout is concerned about corrosion, although the original front and rear mounts are made out of steel too.
Edit: To answer the OP question, I guess you can press an insert into your original aluminum mounts if you find one that is made for that. I thought those mounts were the same whether you have manual or automatic transmission. Mounts are only different when it comes to front and rear mounts.

Manual mount (atleast for the '02/'03 ) is completely different than the Auto mount.

Manual mount actually mounts directly to the frame (like an L-bracket) and has a weighted bracket welded to the top of it that holds what I believe are the brakelines

I was just being picky about the aluminum mount. The OEM for my 2000 was aluminum, and I wanted to install the same mount. Corrosion was a little concern, but it came powder coated black.

The only install problem I had was the base of the aluminum mount was thicker than the steel mount. I had to cut off 1/4" of the bolts, and add 2 lock washers to get the mount to sit properly. I'm not sure why they are different thicknesses where the bolts mount to the transmission.

I installed the steel mount b/c I was just crushed for time, and wanted to get my car back on the road.

thanks for the thread advise...I'm sure I'll swap everything out when this motor dies.
