Best brake pads?

Reading around a little and I am debating on which pads to run. I know the rotors I'm planning to get (unless anyone suggests otherwise)

http://forums.maxima.org/group-deals...nes-fluid.html

Dimpled and slotted, read too many bad things about drilled heating up and cracking. Will also get some SS lines and brake fluid.

Pads, I am in the air between Hawk HPS, Hawk Ceramics, or Axxis Ultimates. Anyone have any recommendations on these pads or others?? I care about NO SQUEAL more than anything, than performance, than brake dust. What are you guys running?

"Best" is a relative term, and changes depending on your uses and goals. For strictly street uses with little need for resisting a lot of heat any of the pads you mentioned will work fine.

I actually run Raybestos pads and rotors on my Maxima because its just a DD and doesnt see any repetitive hard braking that would build up a lot of heat.

Hawk HPS, I've had them on for a couple months now and I'm satisfied. They do tend to dust more then oem ones but i love how they never warp.

ebc redstuff, or ebc greenstuff. the reds are more aggressive than the greens. Hawks are metallic (ferro compound) so they tend to dust more than the ebc's which are ceramic

I use HAWK HPS in the rears and the Hawk Ceramics in the Front.
I'm running power slot rotors all around never had any problems it breaks perfectly every time..... I came down from 110 mph a few times.... virtually no break fade..... I Also hear that EBC's and brembo blanks are great too.

I'm using those rotors (with only dimples though) + Hawk HPS pads and have been pretty happy with them. They say low dust... but there is a good bit. Just keep some wax on your wheels and it rinses right off.

The real question is: how much brake dust is acceptable?

The HPS and Ultimates produce a lot of dust (personal experience), while the Ceramics are supposed to be more civil, with less dust.

Also, why not blank (non-dimpled/slotted/drilled/blinged) rotors?

Oh dear...another "which brake pad" thread.

I've been thru two sets of Hawks now, and they are good pads -- but next time, I'll be getting something cheaper and more "daily driver" oriented.
Hawks are pricey.

I'm still baffled by everybody saying they don't cause pad material transfer to their rotors (warping)....b/c Hawks have NEVER stopped this issue on my car.

Obviously, it's the way I drive.

Thinking about the ebc redstuff and the usr rotors after reading up here...

http://www.ebcbrakes.com/selector.shtml

I chose this combo because it seems like it will be pretty quiet but stop well. Summit has the Redstuff pads for 95 a pair and the rotors for 165 a pair.

That's exactly what I DON'T want is an OEM feel. I'm looking for something with better performance than OEM.

ebc rotors are noisy, spend a few bucks more and get the DBA's. They are way way quieter

Everyone says that Hawk HPS pads dust a ton. I almost didn't buy them because of this. What a mistake that would have been! These have been the best pads I've ever owned. No squealing at all so far after 8k miles, very, very little dust, as in less than stock, and better than stock braking. The Hawks plus Centric rotors are what I plan on using from now on.

that's the problem, they are inconsistent. They either dust like hell, or they don't. They either squeal or they don't. Seems like they have good batches and bad batches.

the squeeling is a result of appropriate grease locations and break in, if both are done right you wont get squeeling

Yep... My HPS pads have never squeeled. The dimples on the rotors make for some cool noises under hard braking though.

My HPS only squeal on really cold days when I'm light on the brakes- as do most performance pads. soon as I step on them a bit or the weather gets warmer, the noise goes away.

How well would the Hawk HPS pads work with OEM rotors?

I'm running Hawk HPS on the 2003.....Akebono on the 90....more bite IMO with the HPS but 90 brakes are pretty darn awesome as well...just hadn't performed a 130 mph brake test on the 90 like I 've done with the 2003.....

On my 2002 Maxima SE I have replaced the OEM rotors with Powerslot rotors and I have used ceramic pads with good success. I like the ceramic because they work great and there is little or no brake dust build up on the rims. I have replaced the rotors with each brake job.

Better than OEM? Then 2004 Maxima front calipers, brembo blank rotors and virtually any ceramic pads. I personally use powerslot rotors with PBR deluxe plus pads. Installed 4/2009 and I only get minor squeeking from time to time.

As for brake lines, just try squeezing the OE plastic line. If the plastic was so bad that you can squeeze it, then go for stainless steel lines.
