http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-01...Q5fAccessories
For $20? Anyone had any experience or seen one in person?
Or should I shoot for the one that custommaxima.com has for $50??

I've heard they have no resonator inside of them. That would make me assume they'd probably be pretty raspy. You'd be better off getting a Megan Racing test pipe and just swapping it out every time you run through emissions. It's a 15 minute job on our car.

Alright. I definitely don't want a high pitched sound. My catback is on its way.. The axle back flange broke...and actually sounds pretty awesome! Nice deep rumble. For all I know the cat is already gone...

Thanks

I have that test pipe. It does have some sort of a resonator. It is a straight through pipe with holes in it and the enlarged part is filled with fiberglass. Doesn't sound raspy on my stock cat back with OBX v2 headers.

I purchased the one for a 95-99 Maxima, as it had the proper length of 12.xx inches. Same exact part, but they make two different lengths.

Here is a link to the exact one that I purchased for my 2002, and it should be the same for the 2000 and 2001 also, as long as they use the same cat. I don't know why they sell a 13.75 inch one for the 00-03, as this is 1 inch too long.

And here's a big pic of the inside of the test pipe. Not bad for $30 shipped.

A too-long high-flow cat isn't bad at all. If it's too long, I might look into it. There's actually a gap where my OBX headers were too short that was about an inch wide. I had to tighten the flex down to the cat, and I'm sure the added stress of being stretched like that isn't good for it.

My Warpspeed test pipe is straight through and there is zero rasp. In fact, there really wasn't any change in sound at all. My exhaust is otherwise stock. I think as long as you have a stock exhaust, a test pipe isn't going to affect how your exhaust sounds.

The megan test pipe is too long, at least the one I bought off ebay thats 00-03.. I need to cut it and weld it shorter. That is resonated.
The pipe is so small I dont see how that short of a resonator or strait pipe would make much of a difference.
I also remember reading somewhere that a gutted cat will reduce hp by 1-2, or something like that compared to an actual test pipe..

I'm not sure why they sell two different lengths, but I do remember reading that the Megan was 13.xx inches long and some people were having problems.

And because there are two diff versions of this test pipe, I purchased the 12.75 inch long one and it fit perfectly, but if you have a gap, than the 13.75 inch one will be perfect for you.

And to be honest, there is no noticeable HP difference with the test pipe and no noticeable sound difference.

And if you have an aftermarket catback with a big enough resonator, that should reduce any rasp that you may have with a test pipe.
