oil leak help!???

in my 00 maxima. i thought it was just a minor thing..had steering squeak and i saw canister of fluid was all out practically. upon filling that with lucas and steering fluid...i notice the area below in the picture.
that black foam housing was soaked in oil at the bottom. there is oil present around that area.

question is. what is this line for? possible issues that could come out of this?

Power steering pressure hose. This is a common issue on our cars. I just had to have mine replaced about 7 months ago. I had a leak that would run out my power steering fluid about every 150 miles.

It's not too expensive to replace. But it's a real PITA to install.

I think I payed $125 for mine. A buddy who's a parts manager ordered it for me. You'll find them anywhere from $125-160 depending on where you shop. I forget the part number, but I know it's called a power steering pressure hose. I'd say try calling DaveB and see what he can do.

I agree give Dave B a call for pricing, he also has an added incentive with an end of the month sale, here's his thread link and contact info http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...onth-sale.html

It's pretty self-explanitory. It only has 3-4 bolts holding it in place. It can even be done on jackstands, but I had my mechanic put the car on a lift and do it to save time.

Took him about 30 minutes to get it done. It might take longer on jackstands.

easy fix. the hardest part will be reinstalling the large bolt that connects to the power steering pump.good thing your not replacing the pump, youll need little boy hands, its a tight fit!

We had no issues with the banjo bolt. We got that bolted up in about 30 seconds on the lift. The hardest part was getting the little bolt that holds the bracket for the hose behind the manifold back on.
