what could be causing this??
everytime i turn on the car it makes a griding noise and the rpm's jump up to about 3k and then it goes back to normal? it only does it when the car is turned on but once the car is at operating temps it doesnt do it and turns over just fine. what could it be a bad starter or something else??
I have the same "grinding" noise and i think mine is from the starter sticking on the flywheel after the car starts. I think taking the starter off and greasing things up will take care of it.
When I first start my car my revs start out at about 2000-2200 rpm then drop down to about 1000 rpms before things heat up depending on how cold it is outside. 3000 is a bit high but as long as they drop down to a normal range quickly i wouldn't worry about it
