Front door speaker mounting depth

searched, couldn't find any answers other than check crutchfield...
crutchfield isn't telling me anything other than which of their products will fit.
anyone know the exact mounting depth please?

much appreciated, thanks.

I don't know the answer but you can get the dimensions for the speakers on Cruchfield's web site.

I have a set of Pioneer Premiers that have about a 2" mounting depth. I wouldn't go much more than 2 to 2.5" without a spacer, otherwise your window may get caught on the speaker.

I install 3/4" MDF rings with EVERY set of aftermarket speakers I put in. Take a look at how deep the OEM speakers go - maybe about 1/2", because of the plastic spacer the OEM speaker is a part of. If you install the aftermarket speaker directly on the sheetmetal there's a high likelihood your window will hit the magnet when rolled down. Install rings - it helps tremendously.

I was able to install Alpine Type-R speakers in the doors no problem using the OEM speaker bracket (SPR-17S). Woofer Mounting Depth (in): 2-5/16'', as specified by Alpine's website. Like djfrestyl said, if you install straight onto the sheet metal, there's a very very good chance the window's gonna hit the magnet.

while we are on this topic i got the bose system how would one go about putting in aftermarket speakers? does the amp on the bose speaker just go in the trash with the speaker or do i need it for replacement? also what would be a good speaker setup to use in the max?? i listen to a wide variety of music anything from death metal to hardcore hip hop

yeah, get out of here with that question you thread jacker.

Now, still nobody has exactly answered my question. I already have 3/4" MDF rings installed specifically for sound quality ( although the space is nice too :P ).

When calculating safe mounting depth- I was just going to add that extra space given by the MDF rings onto the definitely safe depth between metal door mount- and the window while rolled down. this amount + 3/4" in. would be my safe mounting depth, and would allow me to safely browse midbass drivers without being concerned about them running into the window.

Someone has to have measured this before??...or if someone has their door panel off and wouldn't mind busting out a measuring tape.

by the way, my maxima is a 2001 without the bose system.

btw, I love the first guys response too...lol

I have yet to find ANY pair of standard 6.5" speakers that don't fit after 3/4" rings are installed, and I've installed a LOT of speakers.

I haven't measured the depth...because I've never found it necessary to do so.

Not to jack the thread, but why do you install the rings? When I put my type-r speakers in, I had no problem fitting them into the existing speaker locations using the OEM plastic speaker mounts.

Sound resonance. MDF muffles/deadens unwanted sound waves (resonant sounds) much better than metal or plastic.

Plus, they're reusable - I can swap speakers all day if I wanted to. OEM plastic brackets are quite brittle.

here's an example of a nice mid driver:

Mounting Depth: 3.66"

think that would fit?

Ah, gotcha. Those...likely won't fit. You have clearance for about 1.5" worth of MDF rings until you start hitting door panel. However anything more than an inch, you have to start trimming/dremelling out the plastic behind the grille.

And if you're putting something like this in, then I hope you realize that since this is a non-standard install, the information here on the forums about this level of detail..will be very thin to say the least.
