Click sound when I brake

I keep hearing this click sound which is the best way to describe it, when i brake. Also it happens randomly when im driving and sounds like it is clicking at the same speed of the wheel spin. anyone have any clue what could be causing this?

Where does the sound come from...? Front, rear? Can you kind of pinpoint it?

So are you saying the clicking is intermittent? Or the clicking occurs while braking and at other times, but you are only concerned about the click under braking? The phrasing is not definitive/clear.

Did you have the wheels off recently?

Sorry its definitely in the front. After I step on the break and am slowing down, I hear a click just once and think that something could be rocking in and out of place.

Also, a few times while driving at slow speeds, I hear the same clicking noise but it is repetitive and sounds like it is clicking once for every revolution of the tire.

Oh just a single click... That is an entirely different set of suspect parts.

Tie rod ends
Ball Joints

First and easiest things to check.

Actually the first and easiest thing to check is to make sure you shimmer the front pads properly if they came with shims that arent built into the pad....i have the same problem from my rear brakes when i brake it clicks every rotation of the wheel and at speeds under 3mph.....i was told that an unshimmed of not properly shimmed pad can cause this or ALSO the caliper pin bolt could be worn down seeing as how they are half circular and the sides are straight and need to line up properly.... so start with checking shims and next the pins

I've had this happen 2 separate times.
The first time, one of my tires was low, and somehow causing the clicking noise (don't ask me how)
The second time, my wheel had actually come loose! Tightened the lug nuts and I was good to go
I don't know if that'll help, it wouldn't hurt to check.

Thank god for the org. I have the same exact problem..and also have recently upgrade rotors pads & calipers. Symptoms of a literally clicking noise at only low speeds at the front driver, and slight squeeking at the final 2 seconds before stopping completely. Doesnt happen, or cannot be heard at harder, agressive stops.

I am confused because its been about 9 months on this brake set up with no issues.. And now I have some. Could the crappy built in Hawk backing Shims hold up and give out like that? When I replaced the pads&rotors&calipers I most certainly replaced everything, including a hardware kit.

Im thinking this may be the problem cuz i never saw the shim plates in my hardware kit I purchased, just the retainer clips (8)

Could it be Napa dosent sell the same entire Hardware Kit as Courtesy?

I ran into that problem when I bought calipers through Advance. Courtesy was automatically throwing in the "torque member," or caliper mounting bracket, which makes it a "semi-loaded caliper." Unknowingly, I purchased a "caliper" that just comes with the actual chunk of metal that houses the piston and all its relevant boots and bolts. "Fully-loaded" calipers come with the mounting bracket annnnd a pre-installed pad.

The Wagner brake pads I got from Advance had a slew of shims, I find it doubtful that pads are sold without them.

I have same clicking issue with my 2000 SE. It occurs after applying the brakes a few times. It starts clicking while driving, but as soon as I apply the brakes it goes away. When I take off, it just goes click, click, click, and increases in speed. I will check out these shims and see if it goes away.

I had the same issues, I heard the clicking on my car when i brake, since i'm on the orignal pads with 74k miles on the odo, I'm looking to replace them soon, with Duralast CMax ceramic pads with new rotors. Trying to decide if i should put OEM rotor or upgrade to power slots.

The pads on my car are relatively new and there's plenty of pad on all 4 corners, and the previous owner spent some money on em since they're the low dusting ceramic pads. I'd hate to replace the pads with so much life left on em, but jeez this clicking is starting to get on my nerves! It seems to be coming from the left front. Does anyone sell a shim kit for the pads, or am I going to have to get new ones?

Since there are sooo many posts of this issue being mentioned, I felt I just had to point out that for those who drive automatics, this "click" sound is ruled out as not being the shift release switch operating. This switch "clicks" every time you press on the brake.

I understand most know this and others have a manual tranny....but I just wanted to throw that out there as an initial rule out for those reading this and thinking they have some huge brake issue.

Your problem sounds more consistent with a bad CV axle boot/joint. Check that also.

the problem im seeing is the "aftermarket" Hawk pad's shims do not hold up, and/or are not equal to oem shims

Ok I will check that out as well. It doesn't sound c.v. related but I'm not going to rule out any possibilities. Just thought it would be more of a braking issue since the clicking stops when the brakes are applied.

Curious how you came to this conclusion. Did you find wear or damage on your shims when you removed them?
