PS reservior hose (suction one to pump)

The suction hose from reservior to pump is leaking at the pump end. I called up my local nissan dealer and he quoted me $70.

Can someone detail why this can be so expensive when it isn't a high pressure hose -- it is afterall a gravity drop suction hose.?

Can I replace it with some aftermarket hose, if yes can someone tell me inside dimensions?

It's so expensive because you called the stealership. I was charged $7 for a coolant reservoir cap. In other words, $7 for something resembling a Coke bottle top.

Check out the Parts Bin.

I got my PS Pressure hose there for a fraction of the price Nissan wanted for it.

Have you tried talking to DaveB, by the way?

I went through this on a different car(mercury villager/nissan quest). The suctioin hose is reinforce to prevent internal collapse under high vacuum. Even though it is gravity feed, the pump is pumping out high pressure on the pressure side so it is pulling just as much fluid on the feed side. There will be a lot of vacuum on that suction line. You are looking for the 5/8" suction hose (reservoir to pump). Looking at the bend on the maxima I think you should be able to get a straight 5/8" line(cut to fit) and secure it with wire ties so it doesn't interfere with any belts or rotating parts.

Now to the fun part.......
you need to find a part store that carries it or at least someone working the counters that knowledgeable enough. If you ask for a suction hose for your year and make, chances are you will find nothing, you will either get a high pressure line or a 3/8" return line. I found it at an Autozone near by and I think there are a couple by where you are. Autozone has it in bulk for something like either 2.99 or 3.99 per foot. Just make sure they don't give you some 5/8" heater hose, it will break down over time, you need 5/8" p/s hose (designed for pressure and petroleum product). Hope that helps
