size of metal cylinder for mount

I am going to be doing my front and rear engine mounts this weekend but had a quick question. What size cylinder object do I need to press out the old mount? The shop I am going to has a press but said that I need to get the right size pieces to use for my application. I also need the size for the outer ring too so that the old mount has something to fall through. Any info would be helpful, thanks.

Sorry I should probably rephrase my question. Did anyone that installed the Energy Suspension front and rear engine mounts have to use an exact size cylinder on the press to push out the old rubber inserts or was it possible with a slightly smaller insert?

I'm rather surprised that a machine shop that isn't in somebody's garage would say that. If they want your business, they should have all that stuff. Find another shop.

Normally I would say the same thing but this is a unique situation. It's a do it yourself garage, you rent a stall from them for $10/hr and they let you use all their tools. This includes power tools, a lift and many other hard to find things such a press. Well, these are hard to find things in my garage, some people have a full blown work shop at home

They even said they'd lend me a hand if I get stuck, so they seem like good people.

sounds like a pretty good deal for ten bucks an hr... I just went thru this a few months ago and def an awesme mod especially if your stock ones are shot like mine were.. i DNt remember the exact size but most shops use anything they can find hanging around with the splitter that comes with the press.. The real bit** is that there is a metal ring around the oem rubber mount and you have to find something that exact size to push the old junk thru. The splitter will hold the outside metal and I used a piece from an old brake lathe to press it out (got lucky).. They may have something I would estimate it to be 3 1/2in and another one slighty larger or smaller & super strong.. I would try& find a plumber with diff diameter cast iron pipes in short lengths, that would be ideal. Hope this helps & Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I had called energy suspension earlier today and asked them what size diameter I needed to use but they didn't know off hand so they told me they would call me back after they looked it up. Turns out they said I should use something about 3 and 1/2 inches as well. I am going to a metal supply shop tomorrow to pick up the tube in preparation for Saturday.
