Auto tranny flush

Hello
2003 GLE auto...124670 miles, recently purchased , tranny fluid seems alil bit dark , I'm in the process of changing it,bought Amsoil 12 quarters pack.

I found the thread here :

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/335521/3

and I have some questions :
1.After removing the oil and pan,I will clean the pan and screen, but do I have to clean anyhting on the tranny side ?

2.Can I use carb cleaner to clean ?

3.After I return the pan and pour equal amount , I start the car and disconect the return line , I will drain around 2 quarters , then shut of the engine and put 2 quarters , should I re connect the return line or leave it disconnected til I finnish everything ?

thanks

It is a good idea to drop the pan and clean all the gunk out from the magnets etc. You can reuse the bolts but you will need a new pan gasket from stealership. If you have a few more dollars (which I think you do based on ur choice for Amsoil) put new magnets and thro away the old ones.

Now coming to flush. Fill the pan with 5Q of new ATF (pan capacity is usually 4Q, I like to overfill so that more old ATF is pushed out while the ATF pump is pulling in fresh ATF from the pan). Disconnect the return line and run the car until nothing comes off the return line, stop car. The ATF pump will only pump out fluid if it can draw fluid from the pan, period. Reconnect return line and fill the pan with 3+ quarts and you are done, check levels. Doing the 2Q out and 2Q fill will result in ATF mixing and u don't want to do that with Amsoil.

Good luck.

so you mean I fill the pan actually and return it back to position ? or you mean I return pan empty and clean to its location and fill from the dipstick area ?

if it's the first case , I would think its dificult to reattach the pan filled with expensive ATF like Amsoil without spilling here and there

I pumped out the remaining fluid w/o adding any. I just shifted through the gears slowly a couple times and it all blew out.

There's a "how to" on here that I followed.

will be there any chance of any tranny damage if the car is idling or shifting through gears with so few ATF in the tranny ?

Drop pan and clean/replace magnets. Put the pan back together, fill pan to 5Q via dipstick. Remove return line and point the return line to an empty gallon jug. Here u need 2 people now. Have someone run thro each gear with the car started while somone else has an eye on the return line. Run car until you see bubbles comes out and stop car. Reconnect return line and fill the pan with 3-4Q and check levels.

Done!!!
