Exhaust mounting question

when my muffler was mounted, it was mounted kinda low and I don't really like how it looks like it's sort of "hanging", so I'd like to move it up closer towards the bumper to give it a nice, tight, flush look to it...
So my question is, how close is to close to the bumper? What's the minimum clearance to have between the muff and bumper?...as I obviously don't want to damage/melt the bumper, but I want it as close as possible.

Depending on the Exhaust, you should be able to adjust the hanger rods on the exhaust. Or even check your rubber hangers...they may be stretched out.

How about a pic showing underneath your car?

You can move it pretty close. I had my big potato cannon muffler pressed right against the bumper for about 4 months. I DD it at least 40 miles a day, and had no issues.

Only thing that really happened was that some of the paint wore off under the rear bumper where the muffler was hitting. Not a big deal, though.

My current muffler hangs about 1" from the bumper. Still no issues. Are you in Nashville, as in Nashville, TN? I've got a buddy who does muffler work who can fix you up, if so. If you need to actually bend the hangers, I mean.

I can adjust it, that's no problem...my concern is that tucking the exhaust up really close to the bumper may damage it from the heat...

I'd love to take a pic of the underside, but I'm in Afghanistan right now and this was the best i could come up with for pics...

the heat wont affect the bumper it self much at all, its more so just the paint

Yeah, I'm in TN...I've got access to the auto shop on base {Ft Campbell} so I'm assuming it's something I can just take care of myself real quick...But thanks for the offer, always appreciated!

Here's a couple more pics of how far it hangs, i'd say like at least 3 or 4 inches...I'd like to get it tucked up within a half inch or so

With those double walled tips, you should be fine with getting close. They should stay cooler to the touch than single walled tips.

1/2" from bumper should be more than sufficient.

So basically, it hangs at the stock muffler height.

That muffler actually looks really nice on the car. Now get it flush.

Good to see another Maxima driver in the area. We've been lacking as of late.

Thanks, I like the way it looks too {sounds great too}, just hangs too far that's all...
So are there any local maxima meet's or show's or clubs??? I just moved out here from Portland OR, and we had some great stuff going on out west in regards to Nissan enthusiasts

As far as Maxima meets, there are I think...three(?) other guys besides you and me that are on the org from the Nashville area. So not a whole lot going on for our cars.

The Nashville car scene is filled with Hondas. That's all there really is. Nissan enthusiasts are around, but they're not as frequent at meets as the Honda guys.

There's a meet every Thursday (or was...I don't know if they're still doing it) at a place called Burgers 'n' Cream in Murfreesboro. A bunch of guys from another forum hang out there. There's also Import Alliance every July.

We've been trying to get something together for the Maxima/Nissan guys locally. But there's always some kind of schedule conflict...

Damn take it back to the installer, and have him either heat the hangar rods or cut them off and straight from scratch.....Here's how it should look....Just remember the factory and the "Cattman" rear muffler outlets are positioned toward the bottom of the muffler rear bulkhead, and yours are positioned in the middle so it won't fit as close and snug as Oem or Cattman.....GL

3" Cattman rear muffler fitment

2.5" Cattman rear muffler fitment

A local Maxima event would be sick! I'd even be willing to help organize something...as long as it's next spring...I'll be back from Afghanistan next February....My wife has the car till then ...

Yeah, that cattman 3" is sick looking, and sounds even better! Wish I had that kinda money, but instead I'm picking up a set of Illuminas and some ionic dynamics parts!
But yes, the fitment is superb!!!!!
