Top end problems..

i have a 4spd auto and im having problems with 3rd gear it takes forever to shift and instead of my car topping out at 140mph it tops out at close to 130. any opinions to what the problems might be ? Tranny ? ECU ? torque converter ?

5.5 auto's never topped out at 140mph... all have a limiter set at 135mph.... any mods??? Could just be due to age but I'm not really seeing anything abnormal here

At those speeds? Seriously? Your problem is a lack of forethought.

Here's my WHP at the end of 2nd and all of third.

Another fun one ... I would probably pull tremendously on the car in comparison on a track from 100-130. This is with TS 7100 rev limit.

get the transgo shift kit HD2.. your gears will be waayyyy more crispier.

but third gear on a 5.5 is weak as sheet.

what? if you have a 6spd you either have a limiter at 148 mph, or you have the limiter removed and can go as fast as your HP allows

Or if you're on a dyno, as far as the rev limier will take you.

A little further analysis shows that

Here's some interesting data I got.

MPH @ at 6500 redline

--------5A---5M----6M----4A
1st ----44----40-----41----47
2nd ---67----70-----67----85
3rd ---103--102-----94---132
4th----152--137----124---190
5th----201--164----164
6th-------------------208

RPM @ 75 mph cruising

4A--------2562
5A--------2420
5M--------2961
6M--------2340
.

Well, with all my mods, long ago, in a galaxy very far away, on a very nice newly paved road I hit 162 MPH or just over 260kmh.

Also when I was over at dandymax's place after working on my car he turned on his computer and had some fancy software that can calculate a bunch of things depending on the data you can input. We put the car's weight, the dyno numbers, and a bunch of other data and it came up with the same number within a mile or 2. With my horsepower and torque and gear ratios... 165 mph would be top speed.

I was in 6th gear not even close to redline and the car just would not go any faster. No limiter, no fuel cut. The only limiter I have ever felt on the car is the rev limiter.
On the dyno with the 06 gear box in 4th gear, the rev limiter kicks in at 122 mph so with 2 gears to go it would be easier to go much faster, but the weight of the car and wind resistance keep it just above 163 mph.
I did not remove the rev limiter if there is one. I haven't even got a clue how to do that or even where it is located. Maybe Canadian cars don't have it?

because your 6th gear is an OD gear...not a pulling gear. 6 speed LS1's Camaro's/Trans Am's have the same "problem".
i tried to top my my old SS but when i go to shift into 6th at 155 the car would not move any more.
some LS1 guys though have modified their T56 and pulled out the OD gear and made their 6th gear a pulling gear and are able to push the car well beyond the 155mph limit.

By your definition, 4th is the next closest "pulling gear". 5th is overdriven as well.

It's always been argued/debated around here that the A33B 6MT does indeed have 2 OD's, by definition.

It does have two overdriven gears, I don't think there's even an option to arge that

as far as knights post goes, the 162 is still meaningless. Every car will be different depending on mods and the weather. You could take your car out on back to back days and unless the conditions are identical you will have different top speeds, I was just saying that quoting your top speed as te top speed of 6spds is meaningless. That bring said, I wish there were nice open roads like that here since on a stretch of road like that I have easily gotten my car to 140 while just giving it like half throttle in 6th. Would love to see what it could do on a long enough stretch to actually max it out

yeah but the 5th gear still pulls enough to get you up past 140. hell the 5th gear on my Max pulls good enough to get me past 120+ when i into it. can only imagine that the 5th on a 5.5 gen would be the same.

Surprised you got 162 Knight. I know these cars are quick but DANG!

My 3.5 Altima would quite easily hit about 240kph (around 150ish mph) but felt like it was drag limited pretty bad up around that speed.

Long ago, there was this phrase kicked around at about this point in the conversation. I think it was, "In before the lock".

I think I'll throw one out there anyway, just for old time's sake.

Um... in before the lock.

Maybe a JET ECU will fix the problem ? doesnt matter how many gears there are one gear should not be taking a longer amount of time to shift then the others.. and yes a PRELUDE a 4 cyclinder honder smh

your boys are lying to you, or something with the air where you at to cause the reading to be off... ALL 5.5 Nissan maxima automatic comes with a stock limiter of 135mph GXE, GLE, SE (a-z, any combination model you wanna make up) you just realised that you just set yourself up to get banned right as you just about said ur street racing... check the rules... anyways i understand the speeding (ive done this probebly 3 times a week on this closed highway before i get to work where im at) do you have any CEL??? maybe sensors, again unless you have an upgraded ecu your car will never pass 135mph, you can loose to a prelude up top bro man

no such think as a JET ECU but im gonna assume you meant JWT... they dont do ECU's for 5.5 gens and TS stopped so unless you get a UTEC you sir will always loose to this prelude up top... i understand you have a long 3rd gear, so do i, doesnt means you can go pass 135... a limit is a limit, if your first gear took you to 135mph then thats all you can use, one gear

of course less gear means more time in one gear.

and the Jet ECU, I suggest you get an electric blower motor supercharger, gives you 200hp+

You need to cut a hole in the floor under your accelerator. It is obvious the pedal has met the metal...

or maybe have some VTEC stickers on the car and yell "VTEC just kicked in yo" to the other car.

That's weird I just spoke to the main guy @ TS and they are willing to upgrade my 5.5th Gen ECU (a/t) cause I understand that the damn thing will need to be manually shifted to reach the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd gear.......So I know this is still available if you fully understand the scenario! I've pulled to 130 in 3rd gear and almost hit the rev limiter....and this was from 40mph leaving an entrance ramp to 130 mph in about a mile with a passenger......I thought we all had 148mph speed limiters A/T's and M/T's.........
