What do you do to make your engine look pretty? :)

I looked at that idea this morning before heading out, and no, there really isn't anywhere on the firewall that would work.
There are 3 places I'm considering:

I've circled the options in red here. Anybody have any opinions?

There are 3 places I'm considering:
- On the flat panel above the hood latch. This is a perfect fit, actually. Although I rather like the little Energy Suspension decal there right now.
- On the battery, replacing the little bling NISSAN emblem I put there last year. Ghost_54 gave me that little emblem, and while it's nice and all, this NISSAN Bluebird badge is a more significant design.
- On the top of the UIM. Which is kind of an interesting look. Not sure how well things would stick to the aluminum, however.

To me, since its a nissan emblem, it should go on something that belongs to the car, not on anything aftermarket. Just my $.02.
I would go with the hood latch area then.....the only down side to that is that its kind of hidden.
I know you said that if you mount it anywhere, it would be in the engine bay......but i think that would look really good as a replacement for the burger over the license plate on the trunk......it appears to be big enough to cover the holes from the original burger.

Wow, these are all really great ideas! I guess the only thing I've done to "dress-up" my engine bay is my CAI, but now I've got some great project ideas for winter break.
What's the consensus on foaming engine degreaser/cleaner?

Trying to figure out whether this thing looks better on the front cross-member, or offset on the top of the battery.
I'm leaning towards the battery, because on the cross-member, it seems almost too big. And it creates a trio of NISSAN burgers that draw your eye in an awkward way. (Grill burger, this thing, engine cover burger.) Awkward, maybe, because they are two different styles of the Nissan Logo.
Hard to explain, but it dominates the viewpoint too much.

But here on the battery, it's part of a perspective that's seperate from the rest of the engine bay. In this case, the old badge doesn't conflict with anything similar.

Looks like I'm gonna have to do some more engine dress-up in the spring. I live in a small city (pop. 75,000) and every year in the summer, there's a weekend vehicles event called "Street Machine Weekend"... Last year, for the first time, there was a car and truck show on one of the afternoons called Dropsicles (just for dropped vehicles, obviously)
... So the plan is to get coilovers before then and slam my car to the ground for the event.
I'm gonna need to get the engine bay looking really pretty too... I'll probably be re-reading this whole thread.
On second thought... Rochester, can I just borrow your engine bay for the weekend?

I guess I never understood the need to advertise for the mfg.
Now if they gave me the car for free, I'd be happy to hang Nissan banners all over it...

Rochester, I think it looks best near the latch. It looks lost on the battery, but perfectly symmetrical near the latch and like it belongs. Now thinking about that spot, it gives me an idea of a decal I'd like to put there...
rochester you also need to paint some stuff...your coolant pipes...the top of your starter....windshiled wiper motor...power steering bracket...i see some rsuty bolts by the tranny mount and your clutch bleeder bracket...just get some black spray paint and spray into a cup and use a small brush and get to work...lil things count =)...you got everything else...but some things still need work

look behind your battery at that tranny mount!!!! you see that rust around the bolt!! paint that asap a gloss black and anything else you see around the bay!! trust me itle make a huge difference

You guys should try wire tucking the eye-soring loom of wire that wraps around the drivers side shock tower. Notice my fuse box, then no wire leads up and around the shock tower? Its alot cleaner, not in my engine bay because i have alot of other stuff, but in that area its far better than what it use to be.
The aluminum piping you see thats left is part of the a/c line, and the other line is my ss 1piece clutch line.
Just an idea instead of shiny little bolts and covering holes. Il be doing the passenger side relay box in the spring so i can have more room for my supercharger filter.
why new water pipes? lol or tranny mount...just paint them and the starter you can paint for now till it goes bad...why keep it ugly?

looks rele good..where did u tuck the wires to on the drivers side? i had the whole passenger side tucked and away till moisture from where i put my fuse box ****ed it all up and i hadda replace every single relay =( so i put it back lol
Tranny mount because it's 8 years old. Already did the torque mount bushings and most every other bushing in the car. It's about $100, not really a DIY for me, and very rusty fugly, as you pointed out.
Starter... IDK. I haven't given it a lot of thought. Rather not replace it until it breaks. Not sure what the lifespan expectations are for our starters.

If you un-do the wiring, there's plenty of slack to loop it under the transmission mount and through a hole behind the shock tower. You'll see what i mean.
Look at what DressUpBolts.com is starting to sell:

Seems to be a brand new product line... no pics or prices yet, but Chris @DressUpBolts says they'll be available starting next month.
It's not something I'm particularly interested in, but with the right kind of rim, Ti-lugs would look really good, I bet.

My engine cover is currently at a friend's house undergoing paint work. It's going to be red with black lettering on the V6 3.5 and Nissan burger because of how my exterior is Super Black with red accents. Ying-yang effect is what I'm going for. I might be able to post some pics up later today after it gets some clear coat on it.
Off-topic a bit, but I painted my grille black last weekend. My friend and I decided to try painting the lettering on the burger. We masked it off, used a razor blade to cut the tape of the lettering, and hit it with the red paint. It didn't stick well and looks pretty sloppy if you're within three feet of it.

Any suggestions on how to make that work? I'm riding around burger-less in the front for the time being and to be honest, that look is starting to grow on me a bit, but I'd like to get the paint fixed and burger back on if i can. I refuse to fall into the Civic trend of doing crappy paint work and leaving it be.
I'll be honest with you, I didn't expect it to hold up to time and heat and what-not. But it's been about 1.5 years now, and still looks great. Go figure.
LOL. I was guessing just mask, heavy paint, wipe off the non-lettered part.
On a different note, I am hating the though of popping my hood after driving several hundred miles the last 7 days in a continuous downpour. Its gonna be a mess in there...

A small bottle of gloss-red paint, some very small paintbrushes, reading glasses, a steady hand and lots of patience.

The burger itself on the engine cover is going to be black, now I just need to decide if i want to go with red or silver paint for the lettering. Decisions, decisions.
On another note, Titanium Bolts arrived today for when I put the Torque Link connector back on the car in the Spring. Starting to build a little collection of car stuff in my office again.
Ain't winter fun?

I rather think red lettering wouldn't look good on the front grille burger, but IDK for sure. Have to see what you do.

I'm thinking about painting the whole burger black or maybe just getting a new one. We'll see. I'll snap some pics if I can.
Haha, yeah. We only get (on average) 11-12 inches of rain a year in San Diego so when we get 7 inches in 7 days, that is a really catastrophic amount of the stuff. Lots of flooding going on all over So Calif.

In Trooper's defense, the West Coast has been pounded by historic, dangerously bad weather recently. And while that has nothing to do with keeping his engine bay clean (says the man from the Rusty Northeast), I do acknowledge that California is going through a difficult time.

Sorry for the OT.....back on topic......I would still vote for near the hood latch and not on the battery.
But as I said before, I would look into using it as a replacement for the burger on the trunk lid.
After replacing the front water pipes, my spring-time project will focus on the Wiper Motor, and the Starter. I figure both can be removed, cleaned-up and painted. Although I still don't have the right tools to get at the lower bolts on the wiper motor.
Nah. The little Bluebird NISSAN emblem will be mounted on the battery. But I appreciate the input, Kevin.

Sounds like you need to buy yourself a couple tools for christmas (or at least drop a few hints to the family)
