big maf tuning
Has anyone with a vafcII figured out how to tune their bbmaf? I have found that setting the sensor to 1 in 3 out evens out the idle but then you have to tune it down as you start to drive and no matter how much i turn down 3500 it still runs rich down to 9.2 afr. I know every car is different but any feedback would work great.
if you have NO experience with the bbmaf please keep your comments.
i am not going to buy a safcII either. I know it works with that afc.

update: still set to 1in 3out tuned narrow lvt down to about -17 up too 4100 rpm. and runs good around 15 -13.9. but i cannot seem to tune the wot no matter how low i tune the wide throttle i have it down to 17 and still reading 9.2 afr. is there a setting i down have set? my th point is at 55% for wot
Strange it's running rich. Whats the diameter of this new MAF?
I was @ +27% when I first tossed my BBMAF on. It was very lean otherwise. I would get some good AFR and it felt responsive, then it would fall on it's face. Then I found out about the IN/OUT deal.
What tranny type do you have and how does it idle (AFR)?

After taking a look at the VAFC wiring diagram, looks like there are only 3 V6's, the J30, J32 and the J35. Those are all PR-6, Vehicle #2 for the sensor info. I would imagine these have the largest intake diameters, so that might be a good place to start since the correction scale would be greater. Maybe try using say a D15 engine (PR-6 Vehicle #2) and the other one of the V6 variants mentioned above. Maybe food for thought.

i can set it to run really lean but i would prefer to tune from a rich standpoint to avoid kaboom...
its a bosch tube thats i all i know the owner said its from a 5 series. im guessing its lin 3.25 id... its huge i have to use a 3.5" coupler to hold it on... i tuned it to run good but once WOT hits the gas just shoots into the intake and feels like some one trying to run through water.
looks similiar to the lr maf... probably is. i did some testing and 1in 3out works the same as 4in 3out and 8in 3out. I just cant get the thing to tune under WOT. im starting to wonder if the computer is going around the tuner at hvt. or that i have some setting wrong in reference to the wide throttle.
Yes i havent gone through every setting yet its super time consuming to sit there to turn the car on run then off then start it and see.

By the way, how do you have the tuning map set up? Did you combine the maps to get 24 correction points? Or are you using just 12? If you're using 24, make sure you have the hvt and lvt set properly
IIRC, the M62/S62 use that big bad boy. Also, this thing is found on Ferrari F360's too.
explain a little but more. i beleieve i have 12 on lvt and 12 on hvt i have to switch screens to go between the 2.
i will try again tonight after to work. ill go through the 2in and see. where is this diagram that has all the sensor types and voltages. im sure it will help. I am really the only one who has taken this on with the vafc2?
Most just sorta fail and never get to it, so this could be ending up a breakthrough thread/sticky mateial. http://www.apexi-usa.com/content/pdf6133.pdf

I wish my wideband was here already so I could help more.
I'll start reading now only because you so kindly posted up the link for us.
If you go under the settings menu it should be the 3rd on the list if i'm not mistaken. It should say V/T control or something to that nature. make sure that is set to switch over and the same rpm as your map switches over.

im about to join the masses and put back in the original maf... i cannot get this thing to work for me. the low end gains feel smoother but its just not taking the tune up high. if there is any one in miami that is proficient with the vafc send me a pm
Right after the figure out how the hell you tossed an AFC designed for a Honda on your car, sure, they would help.
If a shop knew the answer, I'd be surprised as all hell and I would eat my words.

when essential gets his wide band setup im sure we will find out if it can be done. I'm not gonna go to a tuner shop for something i could find the answer too with some messing around of settings. plus i always hear that tuning shops are an overkill on price but i digress.
ima take out the housing until essential gets his stuff installed and see what can be found. and so when my lighter rims come tomorrow i can see what the timing gains are at the track. ill admit I'm not perfect with the vafc2 but i feel i know enough about it to get this thing to work.

I think it would help if you post all of your settings here. Such as your Lvt -> Hvt and your individual RPM points and whether you corrected only one of them or both.
I noticed that when I took my car to be dyno tuned (with a faulty knock sensor argh) the shop only tuned across one of the settings leaving the other one alone. I'm also waiting for a wideband to do the tuning myself.
They were able to tune the idle AFR however....
