Do you always drive with fog lights on?
#42
Always on with low beams.
OE low beam aim was too low, so when I cranked those up a little it created a dark area up close. The fogs can then be aimed to fill in that area for a MUCH more useful distribution of light.
Less than one oncoming driver per 3 months has had a problem with this aiming.

Like I said, they can be aimed up a little (there is an adjustment) so that they're actually useful instead of being little more than decorations. That (and low beam aim) is about the easiest "mod" that you can make, costs $0, and only takes a few minutes. Instead of complaining about the factory's aim just go fix it. You'll be glad you did. And they'll still look nice.

one day I aimed my HIDs too high, and everyone was flashing me... some dude that was in front even went to the trouble of slowing down, getting behind me, and flashing his high beams at me....
I aimed them lower now...

Just wondering if you guys always turn your fog lights on when using headlights, or only when there is actually fog.
Do the foglights look cooler? Does it look funny when the headlights are Xenon and the foglights are normal yellow? Does the yellowness of the fog lights make the Xenons stick out more? Just curious

I had 55 watt PIAAs in the fog lights, and then I had them on all the time because they actually helped light up the road better. After those blew out in a few months, I went to 35 watt PIAAs because I didn't want them blowing out so fast, and they don't, but they don't light up much anymore. Since they don't really light up anything anymore, I generally keep them off, because what's the point?

When I'm barreling down the highway at 75plus mph with my fogs on along with the HID's, people driving in the fast lane move over a lot sooner than when I have the fogs off... For some that don't budge I'll switch to Hi-beam and let the 4 lights do the talking...
Some people just don't pay attention to what's behind them or around them when driving at all... they think they just need to look forward...

I don't have any special rewires, so when the headlights come on (xenons), the fogs are on as well. It's not so much for the visibility (which it doesn't really provide any add'l), but more for the look (gives the front a more complete look).
I've never heard of foglights being illegal in a state unless you have them mounted in unorthodox locations (front grille, roof on the the SUVs). There's no glare to oncoming traffic if they're aimed properly.
They DO help out in heavy fog because they are low to the ground where the fog is not as thick, so they make your car more visible and give you a better light path (the xenons give too much reflection off the fog because they're so bright).

I keep my headlights on AUTO, so most of the times I don't even have any lights on. However when I have my headlights on, I always have my fogs on too. I have PIAA Crystal Ion H3's in the fogs, and they contrast really well with my HIDs.
