Drill Hole In Ignition Key?

I dropped my keys and managed to have them hit just right so that the "ring" section of the key broke.

I'm thinking of drilling a 1/8" hole in the plastic to thread a split ring through so that the key can again be hung my key ring.

Does anyone know if there is anything in the plastic essential to its operation, other than the blue insert that presumably has the RFID chip?
