2k2 problems already?!

hey guys, i have a 2k2 SE if y'all don't know it already.
my car currently have 3200 miles on it, i took it in for oil change about 2700 miles on it. Before oil change, the car was giving out about 22 miles per gallon. But after oil change my car is only getting 17.5 miles per gallon. can anybody tell me if they know is there anything wrong with my car?? thanks

Winter gas has additives in it that give crappier gas mileage. Expect it for the rest of winter.

Nothing wrong there pardner. I got over 4k miles on mine and i still get 18.5mpg on average on mostly city driving.

If you want to know about problems here's what i have noticed so far:

1) Rattling of door panels
2) Slight pull to the right when cruising (others report a left-side pull)
3) A grinding noise just a second after shifting from Park to Drive/4
4) A slight transmission slip

You, my friend, have nothing to worry about <g>. I got 3 out of the 4 problems above

Not THAT much, but wait another tank or two and see if it changes.

In a less technical description that would be when the car upshifts (or downshifts?) but you don't notice the gear working immediately. In most instances it's characterized by a short whirring sound during gear changes.

That sound is caused by the gear not engaging thus making the engine rev a few rpm's before the gear starts engaging - thus a "slip"

I'm not sure i described it right but i hope that helps.

Guys, you have a big 3.5L motor in your 2k2's, of course you'll get fewer miles on gallon than 2k and 2k1. Performance comes at costs, including fuel.

My 02 6spd is perfect still. I have 1100 miles on it and there are no squeeks or rattles or anything. I also have no chips, scratches or swirles . Infact I have been getting the same MPG as my 5spd 95 max, 20-22 MPG, half city/country{40-50mph}. My trip computer say's I am getting 23-26 mpg though.

No mechanical issues with my 2k2. Close to 1400 miles now. One paint chip in the driver side door, which I fixed. Interior is still tight.
I'm getting around 20 mpg and the trip computer seems to be off by 4 mpg.

I just noticed sand by the gas tank filler tube. Guess I will have to go to the dealer and get them to put on a splash guard like my 2000 GLE had. Why would you take away something like that? Guess Nissan thinks it would be cheaper to replace an engine under the powertrain warranty than to put on a $2 part.

I'll have to agree on the pull. Just keeping the car straight means i have to tilt the wheel. So on a straight line it was annoying seeing my steering tilted even though i was going straight. However, it all seems to be better now. Not as obvious as it was initially.

For the door. I would think it's more of a good sign, that is, that the car is airtight thus closing that door while all the other doors are closed will create a pressure inside the car. If it's still hard to close with the windows down or other doors open then that's a problem.

Chips are another thing, but i've learned to live with it. The car does have it's strength's that still outshines the chips (figure of speech)

As for the trip computer. yep, it's off by approx. 5mpg.

My 2k2 has 5123 miles now: 3rd month of ownership

NO MAJOR PROBLEMS NOTICED

Small problems are: (annoying to least annoying)
1. tiny pull to right, my steering wheel is always kinda tilted to the left when I drive to keep the car straight, I hope rotation will help a bit.
2. Car has slight slip from 2nd to 3rd when im on the throttle medium, but WOT and normal 2k-2500 rpm shifts are fine.

3. door difficult to close for passengers, unless I let everybody out then I close my door last (to allow air to rush out my door so suction is better, then, since I know how to close my door I do it last.

Gas mileage:
I drive 253-272 miles city, on a full tank before I have to fill up.
On Highway trips/city I can pull 330 to the tank.
On avg 21.0 mpg, the Trip meter says 22.0mpg and 355 dte each fillup.

OTHER THAN THAT, CAR WORKS GREAT!

Problems w/ passenger door

Well, I finally decided to register, so I can speak my mind too. You guys have to deal w/ yet another newbie. Congrats on having the best Max forum out there. So far my 02 Max has been tip-top. 3K miles so far. Haven't experienced any problems mentioned. No vehicle drift at all, but then I did recieve my car "brand new" w/ a whopping 21 pounds of pressure on all four tires! The trip computer doesn't have a clue either! However as far as the problem w/ the passenger door, this has been answered previously... The dealer told me that "it was tightened too much on that door only," and that EVERYONE is taking it back to dealer for loosening. Save yourself the time and go NOW to dealer. It was free. I guarantee you it will get worse. My door closes w/ that nice signature "thwooosh" now.

I have the same problem with my front pass. door since day one I bought my 2000 GXE. The dealer said "the rubber around the door hasnt been broken-in", and didn't do jack. What exactly did you have loosened on your car? Wtty for fitment/rattles expires at 15K miles (?) but I can still kick service guy's ***.

I am sorry to hear about the terrible mpg's, I just went 385 miles on a tank (usually 360-370) on a tank. When I filled up I only put 16.5 gallons in it. I drive a mix of highway and city everyday, but I must say that I drive under 3k rpm's until needed.

Well, I wished I would of found out more about EXACTLY what needed to be adjusted. But the tech did say that something on the door hinge came off the assembly line "too tight" and that a 15 second adjustment was all it took. I was literally there at dealer less than 5 minutes. He said that there were 4 or 5 2k2 Max's that came in for the EXACT same problem. I brought mine in to Mossy Nissan in H-town, Tx. if your dealer wants to call them. I can hunt down a ph# if needed. Hope this helps.
