In another thread I had some issues bleeding two rear rebuilt calipers that I just replaced today. The rebuilt calipers came with some hardware clips in which the brake pad ears slide. I took out the oem clips and put the ones that came with the calipers in, but found they did not snap in quite as well.

With these clips I had to force the pad's (aftermarket Autozone Gold pads -
sorry I know some people hate autozone) ears into the clips and they do not slide with such a tight fit. This seems to be causing a binding problem with the rear pads against the rotor. Does anyone know/remember how easily the oem pads should slide in the oem clips? I think I should be able to move the pads in and out laterly without them being stuck.....

 

I've had this happen to me twice with my Max. with replacement pads and OEM retainer clips. Both times, I had to take the pads and grind down the tabs with my table grinder to get them to slide freely. They should not stick, and should have some movement.

I don't think the aftermarket pads are built within the proper tolerance.

 

Thanks. I will try to file the ears down somewhat. Either that, or buy the oem pads which are $80 at the local dealer. Should be made out of gold at that price....

 

I put the oem clips in and lightly filed the paint on the ears and the pads move fairly easily now. The clips that came with the rebuilt calipers were garbage.....

 

Completely agree. I grind or file*the ears to allow free movement.
