Every tire manufacturer has a website, with tire specs, including maximum rim width.

I'd trust that over anonymous internet advice.

cheers

he is probably also wondering about rubbing issues also... good luck finding that on a manufacturers site!

Seriously? This is the second or third thread I've seen where the only response an OP with a legit question has ellicited from you is a jackass one.

OP: I wouldn't go over 235. I have 235's off of a '07 Mustang, and I'm having minor rubbing issues on stock rims. But then again, I'm also lowered pretty heavily. Anything over 235-240, I'd also be wary of the sidewalls rolling too much.

I think it's been established over and again that 235/45/17 is the MAX safe width that SHOULD be allowable as +1 size for the 5.5 OEM 17x7 rims.

Some tires from different manuf's can and will be wider or narrower than that under the same size label....but that's neither here nor there.

We're talking about PROPER RIM FITMENT -- nothing else.

ANylarger or smaller, and you are risking it - BIG TIME.

Why wouldn't one go to the actual source of information, over what you "feel" is the right information?

Select manufactur website, select tire, look up under approved rim width. Done.

Sad but true, at least here in Texas, it doesn't matter what size you think, I think or a dude on Maxima.org thinks... you will get the maximum size that the Tire Shop that is installing (1) has that shows to "fit" your car and tire (2) or are allowed to put "safely" on the car. When you start trying to get wider tires the chances of the shop or one that that fits the rim goes down dramitcally. Sometime when you want to go wider, that might also mean you have to get taller.

I would go with poster #2 suggestion, as blunt as it is, very sound advice.

Why do you want 245s on 7" wide wheels? There is likely little to no performance gain by 'pinching' on a wider tire.

Stick with the 225/235.

bleh! 245/45-17 are fine on the stock 17's. Ran them on my stock SE rims as well as the wider staggered G35 rims. Never an issue either set-up.

Stock rims...
