02 wont start

well i have been searching and trying to find someone with an issue similar to the one im having but to no avail.

went out to start my 02 automatic maxima this morning and the battery kicked on but the car would not turn over. when i first start to turn the key the lights and **** will kick on for a second but after that the fuel gauge drops back down to empty (its not empty) and all the lights on the center console go out. the CEL and all that stuff stays on but my a/c display and stereo display are both blank...my battery is fairly new, less than a year old so i didnt think it was that.

does this have anything to do with my 6 disc stock stereo going out a couple days ago? all the buttons on the front of the stock head unit do not work, the only way to change the song or volume is with the steering wheel controls.

hope i gave you enough information to help me out and also hoping i didnt miss a thread that had the answer i was looking for

any help or insight would be GREATLY appreciated

So, it does not start? Or your radio/ac display is raped? If it doesn’t try to start , but all the dash lights work, it’s a starter issue. If you get it to that point, and everything dies, it’s most likely a battery issue.
Take the battery to Autozone by jumping it or using another car and have them test the battery.

Mine has been for years, and I can only change the stations/volume with the steering wheel controls as well, and if I’s below 50ºF outside, it wont work, and I cannot change the stations, only the volume when it finally does come back.

Will it jump? Do you have another vehicle with a known good battery that you can swap to just see if it will start? A battery going dead in a year is not common but not far fetched, and more probable with the aftermarket batteries.

Not necessarily.

Again, close but not entirely true.

Then give us some more possibilities vs. the obvious jumping/alternative vehicle etc.

I should have said usually a battery issue, and I did say most likely, as in not 100% a starter issue for the second item.

If he would provide more information and what he has done beside's "it goes click and all lights work..." then I could give more possibilities.

Not knocking you, just like sound advice. The way you typed it made it sound definitive.

Yeah, nothing on here is ever definitive, always changes as time goes on, well for most things. And I agree we need a touch more info.

This definitely sounds like a voltage issue. Get your battery checked out it may have a bad cell or one of the terminals shorted. Also get it load tested, that should help in diagnosing the issue. When you re-install the battery verify that the terminals are clean and fasten tightly.

I didn't read through everyone's response but just make sure your cables are tight and test everything with a voltmeter.
