HELP! can get the strut nut off

im tryting to get the strut nut off so i can change out springs and it wont budge i soaked it in pb blaster and still noting i tryed hold the shaft with vice grips and takeing the nut off w/ a torque wrench and still not?? any suggestions?

are you talking about the nut holding down the tophat? If so did you try to loosen it first when the car was on the ground?

Hope you didn't apply visegrips to the area of the shaft the is in travel. If you did, it's toast.

you are supposed to loosen it on the car...when the lower part keeps it from rotating

if its off the car an impact gun will get it off.. given it isnt rusted on there

well its old struts i have around just need to get the top hat off dont care for the struts

u guys think impact gun and vice grips will work??? if worse comes to worst is there anyway i can cut it so i can resuse the top hat?? im currently have them soaking in
wd-40

if all you want is the top and dont care about the strut..soak it in wd40 type stuff, thn heat it with an accetalyne torch and hold the shaft (no homo) with the VG and it "should" come off. Get it off and then thread tap it to clean it and you should be good to go.
