Quieting down the car: center resonator or new muffler?

Can't stand the 3" straight pipe back to the Borla anymore, too loud and a friend of mine drove the car for me and listening to it from the outside, it sounded like crap. It sounded like a metallic buzzing when he let off the gas ahhhh it was horrible.

Anyway, I was looking at either doing a center resonator about 20-24" long. I am leaning toward either the Dynomax Bullet or the Dynomax Walker Glasspack. I am more leaning toward the Glasspack because it sounds from the description that it will be quieter and it seems like it would get rid a good portion of the rasp too.

While looking at Dynomax's stuff, I see they have a new muffler called the Dynomax VT that has a valve in the back to mimimize on drone at low throttle and open up for almost straight through at WOT. I have a straight through muffler now, but I thought maybe the Dynomax might sound better than the Borla. So my dilemma is keep the muffler and try a resonator first or get a new muffler? I think the Dynomax Glasspack is the way to go, even if it doesn't get quieter I just want to rasp to go away!!

Resonator, perforated, 4" body, 18"+ in length.

Both of those meet that qualification. Any preference and why?

Stay away from the bullet, as I've hard those do not do much for sound. Try the spiral flow moroso muffler. Small yet effective, killed my rasp when I added a test pipe.

Believe me, I have been through a whole helluva a lot of exhaust set-ups in my 4th gen and 5.5 gen.

You want a large body (4"+) perforated. And long. You could also sorta change the acoustics and get something like a split flow without any packing (stainless or wool) and change the tone. This is found in the Borla 16" 5" body unit.

I've spent hours here and still no decision at times:

A local fellow org member and friend of mine had headers, testpipe, full catback and it was pretty loud. He got a Vibrant Ultraquiet Resonator installed, and it made a world of difference.

That would be the 3" version, but only 14" in length.

This Moroso?

Only thing is that it's 12" - indeed small like you said. That is enough to kill the rasp on a 3" straight-pipe setup?? I'm assuming that's not gonna quiet it down much.

EDIT: And this to change up the sound?

Too much, IMO. I would rather get an "all-in-one" unit that would get rid of rasp and quiet it down and change the tone lol

Thrush Glasspack, CherryBomb, Or Magnaflow 4" round, 18" length or more! Turbo mufflers(Reverse Flow) are quieter than straight thru....How long is the case of that Borla muffler?

Don't screw with the muffler on a 3". As long as it's really long and straight through. With a resonator, you'll be good.

Any info to my post above ^ ? It's hard to believe a 12" resonator, even spiral flow, would eliminate almost all rasp and quiet the car down, but you would know better than I.

It does because it's chambered. Resonance sine waves cancel each other out. I also had my doubts.

I see that some people are complaining that it limits flow. Any truth to that? Did you happen to do a before and after dyno?

Yes, it has a bit of a pressure drop ( ~8-10 psi). So, you have to pay to play ..quietly.

That's why the the perforated long large body items are better (wool or better yet. SS packing).

Or, get a fast cat and a Cattman-like muffler.

And you didn't think either or the ones I posted in my first post were good? I know your said you didn't care for the bullets much so how about that glass pack? Large size like you said.

So, besides MagnaFlow, what other companies can I look for?

Also, can I fit a 6" round underneath the car?

EDIT: Lastly, do I want to look for a resonator or a muffler? I know a muffler will do more to quiet the car down so maybe I wouldn't need one to be as long as a resonator?? Still looking everywhere.

I'd go with a resonator. 6" body is pretty big, probably bang around more than you would want. I'd say 4" should be good.
