Do I need to have a shop press in new bearings?

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, as I haven't actually looked at the bearings yet. I used to have a 92 Ford Explorer, and I replaced both front bearings on it. When I did that, I was able to pry the old grease seals out with a pry bar, pack the new bearings with grease, and use a dead blow hammer with a wooden block to drive in the new seals. Worked great, and i had NO bearing related issues for 70k miles til the tranny blew(it was reman'd once before, so all the threads saying stay away from reman trannys are right) Would this not work for a Maxima? Every thread I read says to have a shop press them in. Why can I not do it by hand?

may be easier for you to take the knuckle and new bearings to a machine shop and have them press them out and in for you...and they are sealed bearings so seals are not needed

Cost me like 20 bucks per side and it only took like 30 mins to get them pressed.

Cool, thanks for the replies guys. I guess we are talking about two completely different types of bearings
