For those with aftermarket y-pipes

For those with aftermarket y-pipes
I've heard that I might have problems getting muffler shops to swap y-pipes since it involves removing precats and removing a working cat is against the law. What are your experiences with this or did you do it yourself? Thanks.

If one chooses to have a system installed we usually find that if one asks at a local speed shop you will find a muffler shop who will do your Y pipe or exhaust system install for you. Stay away from the brand name shops and look for a mom and pop shop and you will have better luck.
Remember, most of these shops make more on parts markup than they do on labor so ask what their labor rate is. (Most take about an hour) Also, remember to tell them you heard about them from a former customer who praised their quality workmanship (most go for the vanity approach). Of course your results may vary, we have heard some horror stories about trips to Midas and Meineke where they had never seen a crush gasket and used........ I think you get my drift. Always choose your wrencher carefully.

I think...
Sprintmax is in shock of the $100 tag. I installed my own y-pipe, by myself, laying underneath the car in about an hour. A shop with a lift should be able to do it in 1/2 hour easy...that comes out to about $200/hour for labor. Ouch.
