Replacing my BOSE system...
as long as you stay away from the cheap oem replacement speakers, the sound should be much cleaner. The oem sub is pretty weak IMO. Get a quality HU with enough power to handle the speakers, or better yet, get an external amp to power the speakers.
Loves me some Bose!
I'd say just about anything will sound better, given that the CD player quit working on year 2, and the sub-woofer has a mind of it's own (must be unionized) about WHEN it's going to work!
If you can afford it -- ditch it.
Biggest piece of overpriced crappola in the whole car!!

There is a possible fix for you. On 03/09/08 Teddie18 posted a thread where he found bad solder connections on the sub's printed circuit board. His post has photos and directions. I've read others who had the sub cutting in and out and soldering fixed theirs.
Yes - i know about it.

I don't use the CD player anymore - who does?!
I jack-in via the tape deck, using either my mp3 player or my phone (pandora) and stream music.
No interest in putting more money into the Blose-System.

I might try to fix my sub eventually, but for now I'm not too interested -- and I'm getting adequate sound.
I went thru my LOUD stereo phase in my 20's, and after having my car broken-into (not the max) a few too many times....I won't be going THAt route again.
The Blose soldiers-on.
