Maxima front end noise 5.5 gen.... Please help $$$

Ok I have officially had it. My car is making a knocking noise over bumps usually more prominent over smaller ones at lower speeds. So for example when I go over a tiny crack on the road at 20mph the car car has a knocking noise in the front and the steering shakes at the very same time. The only way I can describe the knocking is using your knuckes against metal as hard as you can. It's actually very annoying. My mechanic suggests changing the right outer tie rod end (the other one was done just recently) or stabilizer end links then he says he's just guessing it could be anything. The control arms seem solid but it has something to do with the steering..
Can someone tell me if they have experienced any issues like this one and what you did.. I will pay $5 thru paypal if u can point me to what it is. Just a token of gratitude because I can't take it any longer.

Thanks.. But how does that tie in with the steering wheel. I mean the steering wheel shakes even worse to a point of not being able to control the cat at 65mph. But the noise. Is bad at slow speeds.

Wheel balance was last done a month ago. I ordered new tires coming in about 2weeks from now. The driver side tie rod end was recently done and that's all that was changed.
Car was put on a lift and the lca were checked together with the sway bar links which seemed tight. I don't know what other information you needed. Thanks

If the steering wheel shakes at 65 that bad and your mechanic is just guessing at the problem, you need a new mechanic.

The klunking sound could be your passenger side motor mount. I'd had a clunking all summer over bumps and it sounded like the anti-roll bar was knocking due to worn D bushings, turned out it was the motor mount.

i have that same exact problem on my 01, i think the knocking is coming from the driver side, y have looked at everything but everything seems to be in its place, is there a motor mount on that side? could it be teh suspension? i dont want to go buying parts to find out i dont need them.

If the bushings on the LCAs are shot, it could be those banging against the bolt.
I'd check LCAs, Tie Rods and End Links, and also the top mounts of the suspension. I don't think a motor mount would effect steering, only the metal to metal and noise.

Does the car feel easier/harder to turn on any particular side?

I have a similar knocking sound in the Driver's side....and I was able to confirm that it was a bad bushing on the LCA.

I suspect I have more issues than just this -- but i know FOR SURE that the main metal/metal knocking I get (similar to what you describe) is coming from that ONE bushing.
I was able to reproduce the sound with the Strut/spring off the car.

It COULD be any one of the susp. components, up to and including the motor mounts.
There's ALOT of discussion lately on ALL of these bits and pieces, and their replacement.

It IS aggravating living with these, but tracking them down is usually a process of elimination and diligence.

Follow the posts, and be guided accordingly -- there's no ONE right answer.
