Mainenance at 170,000!!!???

Hey guy I love my car and I love taking care of her. I change spark plugs every 40-50k, oil every 5k with mobil 1 full syn, and brake fluid/bleed about once a year.

I try to keep up with everything so it always runs/performs its best.

I'm trying to figure out more things I can do to help my car from braking down or something as it is 10 years old and at high mileage. While nothing is wrong with my car, what preventative maintenance can/should I do? Should I change my water pump, power steering pump, etc...

i havent done much to my car since i've had it...only problem i had that stopped it from running was a clutch pressure hose (i guess thats the correct name for it) and when my transmission went out.

the preventative maintenance i did to it when i got it was have teh belts changed, and i did the plugs....this maybe a good time to flush your radiator fluid...but the car is pretty much self maintained Rick....and thats coming from a guy thats closing in on 200k (11k from it). i know when i hit 200k i'm going to have my belts changed, new plugs and hopefully a new set of coilpacks (i hope that gets rid of my code), flush radiator fluid, clutch and brake fluid (hope i get to do my BBK too). but other than that....theres not much to do...IMO, from my experience

Have you drained/flushed the power steering fluid? That's one that seems to be dirty looking after years of use. Congrats on the mileage, whatever you are doing seems to be working!

Some seafoam wouldn't hurt, at that mileage all you can do is common things and wait for a CEL unless you want to dumb a bunch of unnecessary money

Dude I wouldn't worry about it.

Consider maybe replacing the RAD at that age and that's about it.

Just keep up what you're doing and fix things as problems arise.

I take good care of my car too, but needlessly replacing things is well, needless!

Actually I've replaced my radiator last year and did a flush b/c the old rad looked bad lol. I guess I'll just leave the car alone for now.

Good call.

It would be around due anyways, so that is not too bad.

They are solid cars with routine maintenance. Just keep to your routine, its obviously working!

Its very difficult to stop the car from braking expecially with all of the traffic lights and stop signs out there these days...
