racing fuel............???

around here there are a couple stations that sell racing fuel...im not sure what the octane is...but i know its over 100, i have a friend with a Z28 camaro (96) who put it in his car......said he could feel a difference......is it possible to put that high of octane fuel in our maximas? its sold mainly where the honda peeps hang out, they use it.....so we should be able to use it too rite? pros..cons...anything.....just looking for opinions.

You will have to advance your timing in order to take advantages of racing fuel. Maybe increase compression as well (I don't know if advancing timeing does this or not).

In the future if you run a smog test, this might cause your car to fail, unless at that time, you change it back to stock.

I have seen people say that since the engine is not meant for fuel much above 91 octane that it really has no effect on the car.

Don't bother unless you've raised the compression, running boost, or some crazy timing. It's just a waste of money.

100+ octane gas reduces the chance of pinging...You shouldn't ping with 91 octane and bolt ons (excluding SC).

I've experimented with it a few times. Even though your car isn't running higher compression or advanced timing, you can benefit from higher octane. Many times, the rated octane of the fuel is lower than than advertised. Even if it is a true 93 or 94 octane, added heat in the engine, increased load (uphill driving or full load of passengers) can necessitate an increase in octane requirement. Your engine has knock sensors, when they "hear" the telltale signs of detonation, they will retard ignition timing until the detonation ceases. You probably have never noticed it, but it happens all the time.
I've used 100 octane in the tank on a few occasions. 100 octane Sunoco is unleaded. There are other grades available such as 104 and 112 octane, which are LEADED and harmful to your catalytic convertor.
Will you gain any additional HP? Hard to say, but you won't be losing any HP due to timing retard. Your car will make the most amount of power that the ECU will allow.
In my personal experience, I have tried 100 octane both on the street and on the strip. I've found that it does make a difference in the performance, on that my passengers and myself can feel. Throttle response is improved, and acceleration in the high-rpm ranges is stronger.(we're talking about a twin-turbo A6 now) I haven't run any better et's at the strip, but I did increase my mph by almost 1 full mph. I say to give it a try, what the heck? You might like it.
