back from the tranny shop-Edge Racing & Transgo

Not too shabby
seems kinda weird starting off because its about the same just with light gas it almost feels like its dragging. keeping the revs low it runs right in the same area of what it did prior at about 2500 and close to 3k it loses its mind. Really expected that the car wouldnt come alive until 3000 or so, due to the ssim thats been a bit of what ive been experiencing prior to the replacement. im looking at getting a normal intake manny and just using the block off plate to see if that makes a bigger impact.
Shifts arent as firm as before but its evident that the transgo is working overtime lol. tried dumping it from a standstill and got a highly irresponsible amount of smoke and tire spin :/ lol...not bad in my eyes. did a couple runs from 0-80. one up to 90 and im thoroughly impressed. was worried that it would feel like i had to dump it to get power...definitely not the case. only bad issue is that the check engine light is on for the front bank o2 heater :/. just crawled from underneath and apparently they routedd it through the damn mount so its shorting out. gonna take it in at 230 for them to replace it.
the stall they set me up with at Aarons recommendation is a 3k unit. Raises the stock stall about 1200 rpms and its definitely got more back on the low end. Dollar for dollar i will admit that im as happy with this mod as i was the cattman 3 inch prior to installing my headers. Definitely a good mod if you already have it torn down, and its less than five hundred so for the dollar to donuts ratio its worth it in my eyes.

overall, im happy with the investment for the new convertor, as well as the transgo. Honestly these have made a world of difference

With a stall like that and some slicks you could lock it up at the track.

Don't bother then. Shrug. Hard enough going through the stupid phone correcting the words much less formatting. As I'm at work that's as good as u get.

@ moncef- that was the expectation. Trying to overcome the dip in HP compared to a 6 spd. Now working to wire up the utec and begin tuning.

Which Transgo kit did you use? I'm wanting to do that for mine giving the flakiness I get with shifting, still deciding which one I want to use. Is the $500 include install?

my situation was kind of on top of everything else. My transmission dumped reverse on me so I had to get a new one. Figured rather than paying to have the tranny dropped later i may as well put the converter in at the same time. The converter was no more to install since i had the entire assembly out.

i went with the hd kit, and i will say that its a kick in the pants. it shifts fast and hard. there really is no mistaking that its modified. It wont be just a correction of the slip, its a full on 180 degree difference. Even at low speeds where you figure there would be a gradual buildup to the shift it is still instantaneous. I dont know if going with the es motor mounts would possibly make this a little softer, but i havent installed those yet. in retrospect if i was looking for daily comfort i wouldnt go for the hd. id go for the standard. as i look at this car like a daily driven go kart im fine with the choice.

Nothing like raising stall speed to give you more low speed punch.

Looks like u got a utec. How about u raise the rev limiter and just run the ssim. That would help out a lot. If u don't want to than just go ahead and run the BOP.

What ‘dip’ in hp? Are you referring to the RPM you're in from a 1-2, rather than an actual dip in the HP curve?

The mounts will make it a bit more crisp, but a wee bit stiffer since they are stiffer than OEM, but, they transfer all or more of the energy/load to the wheels.

I've been contemplating that. I'm looking to do cams prior to deployment so I mayh end up just keeping the ssim and tuning for that. The graph I saw showed a gain high in the rpm range and huge losses in comparison to a stock Vias deleted mani. Figured I'd try that setup until i cam it.

My thoughts on the SSIM vs Stock.
-First of all I am suprised that the SSIM did so poorly when compared to both the Stock setup and the VIAS delete.
-It posted losses across the board, it only begun to edge out the stock setup after 5600rpm with a gain of 12hp at 6300rpm.
-Against the VIAS delete setup it made the same peak power but posted some gains after 6100rpm, average of 5hp with a peak of 7hp at 6500.
-It was totally killed by the Stock setup from 2500rpm until 3800rpm, max of 24tq at 3400rpm. Never made any gains in usable torque.
-Killed by the Stock setup for HP as well, losses from 2500rpm until 3900rpm, an average of 10hp with a peak of 16hp at 3500rpm lost to the stock setup.
-From 3900 until 5600 they were about the same.

My thoughts on the VIAS delete vs Stock.

-3800rpm seems to be the magic number in this comparison. Below 3800 the Stock setup is better but after that its all gains with the NWP Blockplate and the VIAS delete!!!
-From 3800 all the way to redline with the VIAS delete I showed an average 8hp gain across the board with a peak of 10.5hp at 6000.
-From 2700 until 3800 the Stock setup was good for an average of 8hp over the VIAS delete with a peak of 9hp at 3400.
-From 3800 until redline the VIAS delete made an average of 8tq more with a peak of 10.5tq at 4200.
-From 2800 until 3800 the Stock setup was good for an average of 10tq more with a peak of 16tq more at 3400.

I figure once i get to dynoing its easy enough to do a back to back of each setup if i have them on hand. Just do a street tune for each prior. then dyno and stick to whatever one is along what i want. id prefer more lowend personally.

I mean the amount of drive train losses in comparison to the manual. Just a note to the higher numbers that are dynod pretty much across the board for the 6mts in comparison to the autos.

i had full metal mounts in my last car so i dont mind that at all. This thing if im getting on it shifts like when i used to do a hard shift from 1-2 in my last car. Ill be doing those or buying a stock set and filling the old ones with urethane. havent decided yet.
