I have a 2000 Maxima SE Manual. I am trying to change the Shift Console. I found a 2002 Maxima Automatic trim piece in a junk yard near by for $40.

I saw this link http://www.vqpower.com/v2/articles.php?article_id=114 explaining how a 2k2 Manual shift console can be used in 2000 models, But I am not sure if the 2k2 models have different Shift consoles for manual & automatic transmission? Can I use the 2K2 Automatic shift console in my 2000 SE Manual?

The only thing that might not work is the shift boot. I havent really measured the 2k2 auto console up close, but if it's anything like the 2k1 auto console, the hole is more elongated. All this means is that you have to find a universal boot that is wide enough to fit the hole.

For reference, I'm using my stock 2k1 i30 automatic console with a universal boot that I had to stretch like a madman to make it work.


EDIT: Judging by the pic, the 2k2 console is wider overal than your stock one. It's nothing like mine.

 

the total width of the console is the same, I measured it while in the yard. I believe i have to find a universal boot like you said thats big enough for the extra size.

I saw this installation instruction http://www.vqpower.com/v2/articles.php?article_id=114 for a 2002 shift console. If I can get the boot similar to the one in the picture that should be a nice fit. Do you know where can I get some nice boot covers?

i love teh way the shift boot sits on this opposed to the OEM on my 5th...is this a 5.5 setup or the universal?

 

I have the console trim piece from an I35 in my I30 (liked the lighter wood better), and I had to cut the trim piece to fit due to the different AT shift mechanisms. I had Redline make a custom boot to cover the old shifter mechanism. great quality.
