Engine Stalling, IAV Learning, and what is this thing on my engine?
A few months ago, I had a coil go bad on my Y2K SE 5spd. Midas replaced all 6 coils and the plugs as well - I guess it was about time; I have had it for ten years. When I got it back from them, I noticed that it would start stalling as I was coming to a stop, and a few times when I was slowing down for a big turn. I took it back to them twice, and they couldn't find anything, and no codes were showing. Of course I drove around with the mechanic twice, and it refused to stall either time.
Recently, it started stalling out much more, and many times while stopped at a light, it would idle roughly and then just die out. After rooting around here, I tried the idle air volume procedure, without Consult-II, but I couldn't unconnect the sensor harness. I also disconnected the MAF sensor and drove around the block. For whatever reason, the idle problem went away completely - that was Thursday, and whenever I'm at a stop now, the rpms don't budge at all, and it hasn't stalled once.
I just got a new MAF from Courtesy that I'm putting in tomorrow morning, because I'm pretty sure that is blown too (I've been having cruddy mileage and poor acceleration for a while too), but I have no idea why my procedure worked at all.
Also, while I was rooting around under the hood, I saw this - a hose that is goes nowhere (circled in red in the pic). What is that? It looks like something should be connected there, but I couldn't find where or what it connects to - anyone?

I'm pretty sure someone posted that same hose in the "What's this on my 5th Gen I AM ROCHESTER" thread. If I recall, it is a breather hose for something in our manual transmission. I'm posting this ignorance, then checking the thread to see if I was close to being right.
I am certain that it is a breathing hose unrelated to the intake and spark system.
Edit: Yeah. Huge brain win! http://forums.maxima.org/7740294-post70.html and post 71, "My auto tranny has the same one. That's why I wondered when I saw one on your manual."
