Apline has some pretty good decks. But you will probably find more info in the audio and electronics area as stated earlier.

I have to agree with the OP. For a true audiophile, it's not about how loud something is, but being able to hear all the nuances of the music. MP3s are nice and extremely practical, but they're made with a compression algorithm(lossy audio compression). Even encoding at a higher bit rate won't get anywhere near to CD quality. Sometimes the practical nature of MP3s just aren't enough when you want to hear the quality. For some, the CD option is a must.

Well, it's not totally dependent on equipment. Many people can't hear the difference between the compressed and noncompressed. I wish I was one of those. In all honesty, though, I don't know the difference is there unless I have listened to the CD format a few times before hearing the MP3.

There's a section dedicated where you will find stickys (which you need since you said you're clueless on audio) and ALL audio info. There's not much gen specific info related to aftermarket headunits, so it's your best source.

JVC decks rock..
They also make a really nice double din unit that is not a NAV unit (therefore not expensive) which looks quite good, and has good features.

I had a KD-A815 in my Max and I absolutely loved it. The double din version is identical except its larger.

It had dual USB.
programmable colors with night mode, which I could make match my dash colors.
Bluetooth handsfree, dongle included, and mic as well.
All the necessary pre-outs, one touch mute (which rocks)

Just a stellar piece. I recommend.

You'll have better luck getting suggestions on GOOD units in the audio/electronics section...

I would stay away from that Kenwood, I've installed one and wasn't impressed with the quality.

^^ I would pick the JVC over the Kenwood if you had to choose between these 2 units.

Replace the radio first. Make sure it's properly grounded.

Have any shop do a test on your alternator before you jump to conclusions and assume that you have to replace it.

You're only about an hour away from me. If you want to make the drive, I do suspension and audio installations.

What a fail. So you're gonna change the alternator? The winding noise comes from not properly grounding the radio, try grounding somewhere else.

Disagree. Find the root cause rather than use a bandaid.
