OBX headers & y pipe with Megan ORS catback?
anyone have a setup of obx headers and y pipe with a megan catback exhaust? im looking to hear from everyone with this setup and if they have a lot of drone while driving and if it is too loud!
hey guys! my maxima is about to be sold and i am looking for something to get! i LOVE maximas but i also like change and to switch things up! my budget is $7,000 im only looking for picking up something through private parties if anyone has any ideas or a car they think is good post the link! transmission can ONLY be manual

i know that but i have a ebay catback and with the headers it is insanely loud so i want to see if anyone has this setup so i can hear directly from them!

Well I can say this: An associate of mine's 5.5th gen (6mt) has a Cattman Ypipe and Megan's 2.5" catback and I know his car was louder than my A/T 5.5th Gen with Headers/Hiflo Cat/2.5" Cattman catback.......

Headers are going to make your car louder regardless of what catback you run for a few reasons:
1) You're removing almost all of the heat shields in the engine bay. This means they're not there to block out some of the engine noise.
2) You're replacing heavy, cast-iron manifolds with thin, stainless steel piping. Again, less medium there to absorb the engine sound.
3) You're removing your catalytic converters. This means no sound deadener or honeycombs in the manifold to help cancel out noise.
So there you have it.
Unless you plan on running a huge resonator and muffler, you're going to have a lot of drone regardless of catback setup.

IMO the megan catback with obx headers will sound pretty good. I have the OBX v2 headers and stock exhaust right now. I am in the process of ordering the megan catback and I already have a megan test pipe to drop in place of my pooched catalytic converter.
I checked a few vids on youtube of the setup and it doesnt sound bad. But then again Im 25 yrs old and I live in a city full of honda fartcan exhausts so I think a big v6 with headers and exhaust would sound awesome when compared to that crap. Also I race and I care more about the power to be had than the noise that will be a byproduct of that power gain..... ik ik cattman 3" sounds much better and yields more power but its out of my price range right now so Ill take the megan for half the price.
Depending on the shipping time and shop time for install I should have this on by early new years. Ask me again in a month or so and I'll let you know how it sounds, Ill prob take some vids as well to share with you all.

Originally, I had only a custom exhaust with the stock exhaust mani. Then, when I switched to OBX headers with the existing exhaust it got TOO loud. We cut up the exhaust and added a 22" resonator just shortly after the cat and now it almost sounds like it did when I only had the exhaust, with no discernable hit on performance.
Megan puny resonators/mufflers are drone prone....and the test pipe is really going help the exhaust be even crappier by adding that aggravating rasp....And as we all know headers really wake up an exhaust to a higher volume/tone and if the system wasn't able to handle an Oem setup without making the driver overwhelmed with those 14" drone amps, We call mufflers....I can't wait to hear how that sucker sounds....Spent that extra money and buy a Cattman or re-equip the Megan with a larger resonator.....and muffler!

You've gotta remember, the sound is resonating down the exhaust pipes and out the rear of the exhaust, not through the walls of the piping. So unless you had some sort of glass-pack type setup inside the headers, the sound absorbtion of heat wrap would be minimal at best.

The Cattman Headers assembly are all that....header manifolds & ypipe/High Flow WSP metallic cat/3" Cattman catback......why do you ask? The above statement was referring to my previous 2.5" setup trying to compare the some size catback and their associated hardware....to the Megan catback which is 2.5" as well.
