Does this sound like a seized pulley?
Hi all,
I started up my car this morning and drove it w/out anything weird. However, as I was coming to my destination on local roads, I started hearing a whining noise coming from the engine bay. I checked and thought I saw a little bit of smoking on the passenger side headlight once. Other than that, I can smell some weird smell (someone said it's like burnt rubber) and based on the in dash info, my fuel economy is going down. I hear a whining noise as well from the same side and it gets louder as rpm's rise, but once the car is moving faster than 20, the road noise/engine noise seems to be louder. No CEL.
Can I get some input about what you think it is, and how much it should take to fix? Thanks guys. Car is an 02 6MT SE.
I haven't seen smoke other than that one time. I was able to drive it back to my house which was about 15 miles although I didn't beat on it at all. (I don't beat on it much and I didn't beat on it today at all before the noise occurred.)

Check your alternator.i say this because when i degreased my engine and smoked the alt i had the same symptoms.try this start the car turn on all the lights and heat radio etc and let it idle if the sound gets worse with all that draw on the system you found it also look for the brake and batt lights to come on.if it is the alt read my post about what you might want to do before you change the alt.
