Power Cut Off

Hey guys,

I have a 2002 6speed. I recently replaced my car battery because the car wasn't starting, even after charging it a few times. With the new battery though sometimes the battery light flickers and then when the light comes, there's no more acceleration and I have to pull over. And once when I hit a pothole, the battery light came on and power cut off again. I had a grounding kit on before they installed the battery and they kept it on. Could that make a difference here? Thanks for any help

Sounds like two issues....

1. Loose or poor connection at the battery terminals on the main lines. Check those. It is quite likely this is the negative cable because of the size difference in the battery post and the terminal. However, check both. If they are tight and corrosion free follow the lines for any possible shorts or frays.

2. Get the alternator tested. It sounds like it may not be providing enough output to charge the battery.

Yup, especially since he has the grounding kit.

I also think his alternator is going out as the battery should be holding a charge if it is new.

Alternator light is for charging output, not battery life. If he has a loose ground, then the alternator won't be charging properly even if it is working correctly.

Be nice if Nissan had given us gauges for that instead of an idiot light, be a lot easier to tell what is going on.

Good to know...and yes that would be nice. I remember seeing a thread with someone making their own gauge for the alternator output. It turned out nice with the gauge he picked and how he mounted it.

I would do it, but I just don't have the patience with that kind of stuff.
