Cold start problem

On cold mornings when I first start the car, it stutters and stumbles and then dies after only a few seconds. When starting it the second time, it runs fine. Now, as it has gotten even colder, or if the car sits for more than a couple of days, the problem is even worse. It will die the first time, then one the second time it will run for about a minute, then die. It seems to miss a bit while it is warming up, but seems to run fine after it has ran Ifor a few minuites. Any ideas? Intake gasket? It is cali spec and throwing a 430 code. could it be a vaccum leak?

Ok, I pulled the TB/IACV and cleaned the crap out of them with gumout carb cleaner. They were pretty dirty, however, the problem did not completely go away. This morning was about 10 deg. The car did its usual stumble and die on the first try and then ran the second time. Before, it would have died after about 30 sec. on the second run. It does seem to run better, though. Anything else I need to check?

Good chance you have a small leak in the plastic intake manifold. In the cold weather they warp just enough to have the car run like crap. I lived with it for awhile but had a friend change the intake gasket and never had a problem. Car ran perfect in the warm weather

I thought that code meant the front precat, but with the coold starting issue, could an intake leak be throwing that code as well? I unplugged the battery for 30 min. yesterday, an this morning it started up and ran perfectly the first time. The CE light did come back on almost immediately, though. It usually takes quite a few run cycles to come on after I reset it. Thanks for all the help guys.

This morning the car started and ran great, but today, when it was completely warmed up, I noticed that now it is idling at about 1200 RPM. Am I missing something here? Throttle Position Sensor?

OK, I'm stupid (in case you guys haven't figured that out yet), but I tried the throttle position sensor relearn twice and had no luck. It still idles at 1200. What is the CONSULT II and where can I get one? Ebay? I checked there, but just want to make sure I get the right thing.

which car is this??? 5th gen or 5.5 ? if its 5th gen there is an idle screw near throttle cables which you can lower to 750, once car is completely warmed.

Its a 5th gen. Thanks for the info. Last tank of gas I got 14.5 avg cold weather all city driving. I am beginning to think it has to be an intake leak with such horrible mileage.

Please, let us know how it turns out. I may be in same boat and we are sinking in fuel tank.

I had this problem for a while. Had a hole in the rubber intake tube after the MAF and before the intake manifold, replaced it and it runs perfect. Had the same issues, word for word, with the guy in the first post.

I am having the same issue right now.

Cold start around 10c in the morning.

Stop with idle at the red light 100m away from my apartment,

The car shakes like crazy, and I have to chose P, and step on gas to make at least 1200rpm to stop the shake.

I will take a look in to the TB/IACV and the rubber intake and report back
