HID fog kit PNP opinions/reviews...

Let me first say that I did search. With that said, I feel more confused than anything. I know the prices of the kits have gone down a lot, but I am not sure who has a TRUE plug and play kit that is worth buying. I have looked att he one from Umnitza, the one at DDM, the one at HIDextra and ones from ebay. All have mixed reviews. I just want something simple that I can hook up and go (PNP) with no drilling or modifications. I did see where there was mention of a relay to get for the HIDextra kit (IIRC).

Anyway, with all the mixed reviews, any opinions on where I should look to drop my money? I dont want a cheap kit that is going to flicker or have to be replaced in a year. Im finally at the point where I am tired of spening $40 on bulbs every 6 months now (I just had another light go out). I just want one that will match my 5000k headlights and last at least a few years problem free.

thanks!

Check the GD section on here. Most if not all kits now-a-days are PNP.

As for the relay harness, it's not necessary but definitely a plus to have.

I have the http://shop.3bspecialties.com/main.sc foglight kit with 6K bulbs and matching 6K headlights. Nice white lighting. The harness makes the install a snap and their customer service is unbeatable. For the fog lights get the little bulb, same output with easier install. I bought the HIDextra kit for the headlight bulbs, the 3bspecialties kit is much nicer IMHO.

only reason it wouldnt be a plug and play is if you get a bixenon...with a bixenon you will most likely have a relay and fuse...connect teh power wire to the positive battery terminal and ground out the ground wire, and plug and play everything else and find a good place to mount your ballast, and thats it

Thats where the confusion started. Ive seen the kits from $20 up to $90. I know everyone is going to have a different story about how the install/performace was, but I just havent come across any other than the higher end HIDextra slim kit that hasnt gotten some negative reviews.

Wow. $140? Do they offer a discount for org members? I wanted to avoid the H3C kits as I did learn that the bulbs on those tend to scatter the light. I sent them an email about the fitment of the H3 in the housing, so I guess Ill find out about that issue soon.

IIRC, regardless of kit, one would have to bore out a hole in the back of the fog light cap (for the wires to connect to the bulb-ballast)

The 3B kits has brackets to mount the ballast, velcro, cable ties, and most important the harness. The HIDextra has ballast and bulbs.

As far as the scatter goes with the 3C bulbs, the big bulbs will require you to bend the "shield"to make them fit. More scatter and glare,

Where did you see 5 years? BTW, my stock HIDs just went out last fall and it had been 8 years at that time.

maxpowercustoms (.com), craig is his name and he is a fellow maxima owner and actually a moderator on my6thgen.org ... under 80/shipped per kit with a warranty...though they are not direct plug and play for the fog lights, you have to either drill a hole in the cap, or take our the old wiring and grommet and replace it with new

our FOGS just dont seem to last, and yeah i dk about the 5.

I would hope most of our 5.5 HID low beams last a while, they are after all stock.

So, just so Im clear, ALL H3 kits require housing modification (bending) and the H3C kits do not? I have only found a couple of places that offer the H3C kits. Im probably over thinking this whole deal, but I just dont want to have to keep getting under the car and replacing a bad ballast or bulb; I just want it to work.

H3C's are like 3mm shorter IIRC so you won't have to bend the shield at all.

What color are you looking for. I have an HIDextra H3c 3000k kit that I bought a while ago and never got around to installing, and probably wont be. If you are interested, send me a PM.

Okay, I found a Blesk kit im going to order in the H3 size. My LAST question is this; what exactly has to be modified or "bent" (as per the reflector) in the fog housing and how do you do it without f'ing it up?

thanks for all the help!

Look inside the foglight housing you will see the glare guard it doesnt have to be bent far just a lil bit. just push down on the top of it not to much.
