My 02/6Spd VS Jag X-Type
My 02/6Spd VS Jag X-Type
Driving up Yonge St here in toronto last night while it was raining and noticed a Jag X-Type weaving in and out of traffic in my rear view, he passes me and I ignore him.
We end up at a light together, at the green I go not intending to race but we both start accelerating prtogressively faster then he punches it and I follow suite, broke traction in 2nd gear and then I walked him into and most third but then we both had to shut it down for a red.
At the light again, and we are both ready have some fun, light turns green we both floor it he launches straight forward, I sit at the light with my front end shuddering and bouncing for traction, I let off the gas, the shuddering stops and I sorta regain traction by this time is about 4-5 car lengths ahead of me. I shift into second and lose traction again no shuddering but lots of wheelspin, I gain traction and start to catch him, we both had to shut it down because a car pulls out and stops to make a left, I thought the Jag was going to rearend someone. Street racing is dangerous boys and girls!
Anyhow we take it easy but the driver wouldn't even look at me he just makes a left and drives off. I thought he was cool for running me, but he wouldn't even acknowledge it. Oh well....I know my car is faster and hopefully one day I will run into him on a nice dry day.

Launching a maxima in the rain takes a LOT of practice. It's not fun with stock tires that for sure. I passes a two car today in my 6spd on a one lane road, I downshifted to 2nd a 35 and pealed out to 55 MPH, the road was barely even damp.

I didn't know the X-Type was AWD, no wonder he launched so nicely...I'll just have to take it easy in first next time and then smoke his as$.

I definitley don't see the X-Type as any competition for the 2K2 Max.

2.5L V6 from the Contour/Cougar with different intake setup putting out 196hp
3.0L V6 from the Taurus with different intake setup and other goodies putting out 231hp
The Mazda 6 will have the 3.0L V6 with a completely different setup with variable cam timing putting out 219hp.
Basically, the X-Type is a redesigned Contour with tuning and AWD

Wrong ... the X-Type has AWD standard with two engine choices and an optional automatic tranny.

I don't see why BottleFed is wrong with the "the X-Type has AWD standard with two engine choices and an optional automatic tranny." He never said anything about AWD in his post

Welcome to the board!
